Guys, I have a quick question. Driving back tonight from Abu Dhabi to Dubai in the wife's MCS, I got the check tire pressure warning. Did the whole reset thing, and warning went out. As I drove into Dubai, warning came on again.

Just pulled into the gas station to chack the tire pressures, and found a screw in the left rear. It is in the middle of the tread, and I was wondering if I could just plug the whole and run it like that for a month or two. Just don't have the cash for 4 new PS2's right now. Car has only done 4K miles, so worst case scenario, I go out and buy one crap RFT.

I'll check back here in a couple of hours. Need the sleep.

Thanks in advance.

Gus

Yes you can patch a run flat tire. They are just like every other tire but have a much stiffer side wall. I am sure the dealership will tell you to replace them all because of it, but you will be wasting your money! Bring it to a tire shop and have it patched.

The manufacturer and BMW state that they "do not recommend" repairing run flats. Many shops can not or refuse to do this. I have a shop near me that says they can do it but that you really need to check and see if the tire was damaged by driving on it. Apparently they can develop cracks that could cause trouble later on. Have the tire dismounted and examined on the inside then make your decision. I replaced an 18" run flat on my friends '06 330 from the tire rack for under $200 installed.

bump!!.. sorry but,

is it a good idea to repair an 80%thread run-flat with no sidewall damage? just a single screw.

not recommended but will it be safe or an accident waiting to happen?

thanks.

I got a nail caught in my run flat tire within 2 weeks of ownership and repaired it without a problem... as long as there is no sidewall damage you can repair a run flat tire just make sure you have it repaired by someone who knows what he is doing.

thanks. 2 of the recommended tire shops in my area doesn't want to perform the repair. they said that RF have a structural design, in which if a point of weakness is made, made result in a system failure. then they show me how much it is to replace them with the same make..:mad

^how long have you been driving your car. do you notice any pressure drop on the repaired tire compared to the rest?
