I have a DINAN s/c w/ Schrick cams, DINAN throttle body, DINAN chip, and DINAN exhaust. I've had the car a couple months now. In the past couple days, I'm starting to notice my RPMs kicking all the way up into redline territory in 5th gear when I accelerate on the highway, and then going back to normal. Same thing happened this morning when I downshifted to 3rd when I'm pulling into work.

Anybody have an idea what's causing this? The s/c perhaps?

Clutch. It's slipping. Think about a new one, cause it's going.

dang. i was hoping it wasn't the clutch.... any ideas where i could get an m5 clutch? that's what's on the car now.

yeah sounds like the clutch. check out UUC's cerametalic clutch, should be great for your setup. OR... i remember seeing a few used high performance clutches in the for sale section. good luck!

Brent, make sure you get used to hanging out on Bimmerforums Forced Induction board.. Many of us Dinan SC guys are regulars over there, and there are many discussions relative to clutch replacement (who wears out clutches faster than the FI crowd!), and to increasing your boost, and how to do it, on Dinan SC eqipped cars. You can make alot more power than you are now easily, and there is software to support you! If you havent been over there, go, and do a search within that forum for 'Dinan Boost Bump' for starters :).

Paul, thanks for your post. I'll check that out. At the risk of being flamed here, I don't know if I want more power since I'm already pushing upwards of 400 rwhp (according to the previous owner). I'm trying to take it ez since I just started a new job (Dec. '06 engineering grad), hence the apprehension at putting more money into the car than necessary at this point (not saying that I won't in the future).

That may very well be, but if so, youve got a lot of mods, including a 3 psi boost bump or so. Your car when it was equipped with the Dinan SC made about 275 whp!! Im curious about what the prior owner did to get you a 125 whp increase!!

If your engine bay doesnt look substantially like mine that you see in my sig, ie, with the conspicuous presence of the rms aftercooler, then the 400 whp is highly doubtful. To be making that much power, and not be intercooled is very very difficult, and not at all smart. So check it out and get back to us. The rms aftercooler is the piece in my pic between the blower and the throttle body, with the square black top and a filler plug.

ah ok. i don't know if you saw my first post, but the car also has a DINAN chip, throttle bodyk, and exhaust. plus schrick cams.

i just checked and based on your engine bay, i don't have the aftercooler.

Then I would say you are making 300 RWHp max, unless you look in the bumper and see a big honking aftercooler. ;-) I'm surprised that the M5 clutch is slipping, unless it was really abused.

haha great gotta love bein scammed. i'm goin to try and check around to see if i can get the car dynoed.

Yeah I didn't think the clutch would be slipping either, but I'm going to check into the CDV delete when I do my brakes before i do anything else.

Hey Brent ... I gotta echo what PaulE said ... you gotta come over to the Forced Induction Forum. Thats is where most of us Dinan s/c guys are and the level of expertise over there is astounding. Get your ass over there!

Otherwise ... with the mods you have stated ... and with no apparent charge cooling ... i agree that you are nowhere near 400whp or chp for that matter. Most likely somewhere around 300-320whp. But that is dependent of how much boost you're running. Do you have a boost guage???

Getting it dyno'd is a great idea so that you have a baseline and can check the tune. C'mon over to the FI boards ... we'll help you straighten this out.

Good luck.

i posted an intro thread over there so i'm good to go w/ that.

no i don't have a boost gauge. could you tell me what kind of aftercooler you'd recommend? and any other parts to make my power/ride more "effective".

Jim M3 made at least 385 rwhp and possibly over 400 rwhp with a Dinan based Vortech system and 10 psi of boost plus supporting mods like larger injectors, water injection, M50 intake, track pipe, cat back, Shrick cams, new software with supporting fuel injection hardware like 3.5 HFM and 42 lb injectors, etc. He is now using an aftercooler and a further software revision and should be making more power. Others with aftercoolers and even higher boost and new software have reported as much as 470 rwhp on Vortech supercharged 96-99 M3s.

Hey Brent ... the aftercooler that most use with their Vortech setups is RMS. Do a search on "RMS Aftercooler" and you will find some great results.

Out of curiousity ... do you have Water Injection (ie AquaMist or others) to keep the risk of detonation under boost in check???

Lastly ... PM Marco (Marc1119) ... he can get the best pricing on RMS Aftercoolers and is an amazing source of information on Vortech setups.

I've been talking with Marco and he's helped me out a lot. An aftercooler's in my future plans. And, no I don't have Water Injection.
