I cleaned my HFM last night with this cleaner. It supposedly leaves no residue and is safe on plastic bits. Before my car would idle at around 800 rpm, now it idles at 500 rpm. Also, when the motor was cold, if you disengaged the clutch the idle would fall and then fluctuate for ~10 seconds before smoothing out, now it drops without any fluctuation. My car had a K&N filter on it for most of it's life (until I switched to an ITG filter) and the HFM was noticably dirty. I sprayed through the element with a papertowel on the other side to catch the runoff, and boy was that towel brown when I was done. Great product, especially for $6.

Did you get this directly through their website or locally?

Autozone and Advance Auto Parts have always had it in stock when I've gone looking for it.

I got it from NAPA auto parts, but I've also seen it at PepBoys.

does the ITG pretty much keep the HFM clean compared to the KN?

i want to go 3.5" intake but i like the fact that paper keeps everything clean and keeps the piston rings healthy.

cant it be cleaned with the regular electronic part cleaners on the market ? are those bad ?

I don't know if the ITG will make a difference, but it doesn't seem to let the oil get past the filter like the K&N. Whatever ITG uses seems to be a bit stickier than oil, and hasn't left a coating on my intake tube like the K&N did. I've only had it on the car for 20k so take it with a grain of salt.

The MAF cleaner supposedly doesn't leave any residue on the element compared to CRC's other electronic cleaner and it's safe for plastic.

I'm definitely going to get me some of that. My idle is crazy during these cold months.

Dig'n up an old thread...can carb / choke cleaner be used for the cleaning? If not, why not?

Thanks!

From what i've read, no, carb cleaner will damage the sensor in the MAF.

Spend the $6 and get the CRC stuff.
