guys has anyone out there used the shifter from the z3 in their M's . i have been considering a ssk but because i really like my stock shifter except i would prefer a shorter throw and i read in pelican that the z3 throw was shorter . so if anyone has used this please let my know if u liked it . thanks in advance for all or any input

I have it, it's okay for what it is.

You need to bent the connecting rod as well.

did the throw shorten up much?

it did. I don't know if I like it, it's notchier now. It might be because of how all SSKs are, or maybe it's because of the bent shifter + bent connecting rod.

No, not for me. Although 2nd to 3rd shift could improve, it's not smooth, especially when the fluid is cold.

the site isnt that great yet but i called them and they have 3 kits basic 195.00 complete which comes with new selector rod and all new bushings for 235.00 or the ultimate kit which replaces the entire factory unit and he said is very tight from side to side and it feels like the shifter is right inside the tranny sells for 395.00 . im thinking the complete kit for 235.00 i would love the ulimate but 395.00 is pretty steep . he did say the ultimate is as quiet and vibration free as the stock . from what i can tell these guys are not just a dealer they acually make the shifters with some serious R&D . i will buy my shifter from them the guy i talked to knows shifters inside and out . http://www.autosolutions.net/

even the 195 basic kit seems expensive for my budget.

Check understeer.com, I think that guy will bend one for you for about $25. You have to mail him the Z3 shifter.

I did the MZ3 shifter thing myself, made a jig, did the measurements, bent the two angles. Worked great for about 3 years, now it is getting very notchy. This was on my 325Ti.

For my M I'm thinking about the Autosolutions kit.

I wonder why it's getting notchy all of a sudden.

Not really all the sudden, it has been stiffening over the past 6-10 months now.

The MZ3 shifter is still using the nylon bushings, pivot ball and pivot ball bushing, all OE stuff. So I think the combination of the shorter shifting (which was dramatically short - think Miata) and OE bushings has started to wear things here and there.

I will probably just go with the $230 unit, and upgrade the rest later if I feel the need or want.
