So for the past few months if I let my car sit for a day or two and start it the idle can never get under control. Sometimes its just really jumpy, and others it just shoots up to 2k rpm. After warm up the car balances it self out, and when up to 2k it drops down to 1200 after a min. Anyone know what the cause of hte problems mights be. Haven't tried to diagnose the problem, maybe my guru buddies can help me out.

Thanks
Rehman

It's very normal with this cars. I am not sure if there is a real fix, but from everything I've been told it's not really an issue. Our cars don't like cold all that much.

i hear this is normal from a lot people on these forums, in my experience i've never had this problem. i live in MA which has some very cold winters and still nothing like your describing. i recently went on a trip and didn't start my car for 7 days, i came back expecting the worst but it fired right up and within 10 seconds was idleing steadily at the usual 700rpm....in single digit temperatures BTW.

to me if your jumping up to 2k and balancing out at 1200, you have an issue. ICV would be my guess. around 700 should be your home as far as idle. i have 97k on the clock if you're wondering.

mine has 120+k on it now and it does the same thing...when I first start it it has a rough idle...cleans up within 30 sec (I live in FL). I drove it up to MA at Thanksgiving and it seemed to like the cold weather more...started and idled high until warm. Wierd.

surprisingly I read that many people clean the ICV and accomplish absolutely nothing with that. A certified BMW mechanic told me it's completely normal behavior on these models :dunno:
