Start with a nice foundation of the shocks and springs

Bilstein shocks and struts
H&R springs

then what?
Swaybars :what brand?
control arm with metal ball joints ?
urethane control arm bushings
urethane rear trailing arm bushings
rear shock mounts

What else? is the m3 steering rack worth it?

Fun DD and some auto-cross during the summer.

rear subframe reinforcers and urethane RSF mounts if you're planning to stress the new suspension.

they're important, but it doesn't sound like you will need them on your dd.

get some rear shock mounts by GC or TCK (i think they make them...)

sport springs by H&R with koni shocks.

i hear good things about the UUC sways and H&R sways.

replace all of your bushings. get some good tires. 235's should be a perfect size.

235 is what I got.
any other mounts I should get? I doubt they make much of a difference but who knows

what about camber kits?

First off, replace all the rubber mounts. This includes but not limited to: rear shock mounts, rear trailing arm bushings, subframe bushings, front control arm bushings, tie rod ends, sway bar bushings and endlinks, etc

If theres one thing that an E36 likes, its plenty of front camber. Depending on the percentage of street/autox you plan to do, this will help determine what kit to look into. If you want to change camber settings at an event, then change back to street settings, you will have to go with a kit like the TC Kline or the Ground Control hybrid plates. If you want to just get the camber and leave it there, you can get the 96+ M3 strut mounts and flip sides, or get a set of K-mac plates.

The best way to control body roll is with proper damping and correct spring rates. A good set of coilovers, either TCK or GC will allow you to choose your spring rate to fit your needs. If you must use Bilsteins & H&R sports, sways are your other option to control roll and grip. The downside is that they kill your ride quality, and you will have to re-enforce the rear mounts so they dont rip out. The swaybar arguement happens every month, so just pick the one that you like and get a good price on. More than likely you wont be able to tell the difference between a 22mm and 23mm rear bar. Do however get adjustable bars with adjustable rear endlinks.

Get an X- brace FIRST, if you dont already have one. Strut bars are the last thing, hinged or non-hinged, they serve the same purpose.

My setup is:
Bilstein sport, H&R sport, UUC sways, X-brace, K-mac camber plates, AA strut bars, TC Kline delrin RTABs, E46 M3 RSMs, M3 rear trailing arms, M3 control arms, M3 subframes, Re-enforced subframe mounts, Re-enforced rear sway mounts.
