View Full Version : Blower Motor? Or something else?

I've got a '96 328is. Wondering if the following problem is the blower motor itself, a relay or something else. I'll start the car with the auto button lit up on the electronic climate control. No air flows at all even with the fan all the way up. I'll press one of the other buttons say for lower heat and still no air flow. After sometime the air may begin to blow then it may shut itself off again not long after and then come back on again after a few minutes.

I was told this is the electronic climate control doing it's thing as it is dependant on what temp the interior is. I've had electronic CC before in other cars but haven't seen one acting like this so I'm thinking something is wrong.

When air does flows there is a tapping/ticking noise which sounds like maybe a broken fan blade on the blower motor.

If I override the auto button by pressing one of the other buttons and then turn the fan control all the way up shouldn't air blow no matter what temp the engine is running at or what temp it is outside (roughly 30F)? Air and reciruclate buttons have no effect.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks

I owned a different car that had the same ting yours was doing. Check the blower motor but if that isnt working try and look at the wiring. My other car had a short in the wire and would shut off for no reason. and come on a lil later.

Thanks for the info. I'll check the wiring and have a look at the blower motor first and if no joy give the resistor replacement a try on the CCC.

Sounds like it could be the final stage blower resistor. Controls the speed of the fan.
