So I had some new tires mounted a week or so ago and was curious to see if they torqued the lugnuts down properly and they were all around 130 ft/lbs....thats waaaaaaay too tight. I suppose they hit it with the impact but here is my question. I have heard that the lug bolts are aluminum and are to be torqed to 80 ft/lbs....would over torquing them by 50 ft/lbs stretch them to warrant replacing them? I retorqed them back to 80 ft/lbs and will see. I have had no sign of rotor warp but am just curious....man they were tight.

I would imagine that materials are at least 2-3 times the strength required by spec, but I would change them for pom.

Go to a library, find a copy of the machinery's handbook, and figure out the maximum torque for the bolt diameters/thread pitch we have.
If its less than 130, then you need to replace them, otherwise you are okay.
Also the bolts are steel.

Thanks, after thinking about it, I couldn't imagine them being made of alum as they would stretch to easily. Anyway, being steel, I think they will be ok but I will look any way, I have a steel book at in my office so I will look that up tomorrow. Thanks again
