Just want to know what you guys think about adding a lojack. I know the 335i has a gps, but if you cut the battery or you're in a covered area, it won't work as a location device.

If you are concerned about the battery getting cut, spend you money on the alarm system. It will alert the offender rather abruptly if they cut the battery cable. Lojack seems a redundant expense with the GPS retrieval already there. :shifty

way over kill. Without the key there is no one that can steal a BMW. If someone can prove to me that you can steal an E90 without the key, and the aid of a tow truck(which in that case you prolly should have it repoed if they need a tow truck). I would love to see it. I don't want any of the " well so and so at the dealer told me that it can be stolen" Thats crap they tell you that because they want there spiff off of the lo-jack sale.

I agree. Just how does one go about stealing a new BMW, outside of using a tow truck?

I believe this is the only way.

That is another reason why I had them throw the alarm in. Try to tow it and it makes a very loud noise as it tilts.

I agree that having the GPS and LoJack is redundent.
Question: Does anyone know if you need to have an active BMW Assist subscription in order to use the GPS as a theft-recovery aid? My one-year free subscription is about to expire and I haven't decided if I'm going to renew it $$$$$!

It comes with the BMW Assist, either a stand alone option or part of the Premimum package.

Bmw assist only last for a while before you have to pay for it out of your own pocket.

I used to work with the sheriffs office in Broward county, Florida. When the officer responds to your theft he asks if you have Lojack, if yes they get excited and go after it, if not, they give you a case number for your insurance company and thats about it.
The other Lojack option you dont often hear about is that if the car moves without the fob present, you will get emailed, paged, called at 3 numbers or any other electronic option you can think of.

The dealer told me that the GPS system that comes with BMW assist is only active if the user hits the Assist button or if there is a sufficiently hard accident. The point being that the GPS system will only help authorities find your stolen car if the thief is nice enough to hit the GPS assist button for you.
Believing that to be true, I still didn't get LoJack on my 335i sedan I picked up last week.

haven't you seen the BMW comercial where the guy is listening to the song, "Wheels on the bus". Then the service advisor calls into the vehicle. Guess what he didn't have to push the SOS button (he did however have to have bluetooth). As long as the TCU is in working order it is always sending out its GPS signal. No one looks at the signal unless the car is stolen or has been in an accident.

I say overkill. I get my insurance discount with the BMW assist or with the Lojack, so it's the same to me.

OK, so you are inside the car with all that fancy tooling. That could also be done with a $5 hammer and a bath towel. Is the key less ignition in the 335I just as easy to crack?????? Car in garage and not sleepless until further notice.
