I was rocking out :buttrock on my way home from work the other day and my aftermarket radio just stopped. Lights went out, no sound, nothing.

Got around to checking into this problem today and discovered the 30amp fuse for the factory amp (under the back seat) was blown. Replaced. Blew immediately. The 15amp fuse in the engine compartment fuse panel is OK.

Obviously something is wrong with the amp. Any suggestions where to start looking? Is it worth trying to fix the amp, or just try to source a replacement from a parts car?

Thanks in advance,

You probably have a short somewhere in the amp. Take the fuse out and check the power wire and ground on the amp and head unit for continuity. It is possible you have a short somewhere in the wiring also.

Thanks atl530i.

What's the best way to check continuity? I have a voltmeter.

Thanks again,

I don't remember if the radio/cigarette lighter share this fuse or not, but I've seen on numerous occasions a dime or some sort of metallic object finding its way into the lighter, shorting it out. That would be the first and easiest place to check.
