Temp question

I have read the post here and a lot of peeps always say that you can drive the car hard as long as it is in "operating temp". What exactly does that mean? Sorry for being naive here.

give it 10 min to warm up. then pound away.

It means the engine is warmed up to the temp where it won't rise or fall from there on.

Just like a good working car temp would be at in 30 mins of driving.

Engine oil temp, coolant temp, transmission fluid temp.

Usually it's between 180 to 235 degrees depending on the thermostat and the fan turnon speed.

I don't know how to check the temp in my 328xi yet...I just drive easy until like 15-20 mins later then it's good to go.
