Has anyone purchased the seat kit from World Upholstery? It is a sewn vinyl OEM imported vinyl cover for $395 for the front seat pair and $395 for the rear. Are you happy? Are there any other decent options? I just want to make sure that this is the best option for the money.
Thanks

Almost $800 for vinyl? I would seriously get a few quotes from local upholstery shops first. I guess depending on where you live and who you know, you should be able to do better than that.

Bob,
Not sure what color you are looking for, but BMW Mobile Tradition started producing original bolts of the raw fabric again after they made this new 2002tii recently. You may be able to save your sides and bottoms and just get the tops and backs redone if cost is a factor.

I would check with Walloth & Nesch in Germany about the fabric, as they sell it. They also sell Alpina fabraic. I notice it's not on there site to show, but it was when it first became available again. You can just drop them an e-mail and ask, they are really good about responding and prices.

Besides World Upholstery there is also another.

Gahh, in LA I believe (www.gahh.com) also makes fine replacements and theirs are even more expensive - 750$ front, 750$ back seat. Their carpets run in the $650 range. Any auto upholstery shop working on euro cars has a GAHH swatch book and can order just about anything from them. Gahh also sells the vinyl to recover the door panels.

I used the World vinyl covers about 10 years ago. I'd hoped to get away with just the driver's bottom, but their "heated pleat" was a different shape from the original. At that time, they said they'd been in business over 15 yrs and I was the first to comment on it. Sorry, but a rectangle is not the same as a square! So, rather than pay their ridiculous re-stocking fee, I opted for the seat back cover to match. The covers with haar-gummi pads ran about $350 at the time, but I wanted a stock look.
Al Larsen said he wasn't impressed with the quality/weight thread they used to sew the covers together, but I'll admit the color (Marine blue) was right.

Sounds like a lot of poeple are looking for good sources to re do there interior. I am one of them as well. What are some other good sources out there. Has BMW gone to any lengths to be able to order from them Interior/exterior peices for those wishing to restore.

Thanks,

Tyler

I purchased a pair 74 front seat covers from WU and they were pretty good. They can match almost all BMW colors. I also got a pair from GAHH for my Recaros and they were perfect, just like the orginal factory covers, with all the hardware, but very expensive. Al Larson custom made a set for the recaros (other pair) and matching rear cover for my second 74 tii. They were very good for the money. Dave Varco also sells nice kits for 2002/tii's but not inexpensive.
There is a German company KHM (link: www dot cabrio dot de) who makes the best carpets sets and seat covers but the exchange rate sucks right now. If you have cash to burn get from GAHH, the best in USA IMHO.

I'm currently doing a full restoration to a 1973 model 2002. I was interested in buying from Worlduph, they sent me several samples of materials including carpet and vinyl. I thought the carpet and vinyl quality wasn't really very good. And for the money you could get a local upholstry shop to cover your seats for you with a higher quality material. And that guy that has that car on the website My2002tii.com did an awesome job restoring that car. That car is SHARP!!! It's clean. I love it.
