Welcome to the forums. I'm guessing by your username that the other car you're saving up for is some sort of GM with an LS1.

Fun car, and a real shame it never sold very well during those years. You'll get one for a heck of a price, enjoy.

The 740iL is a very large car and wouldn't be considered a "sporty" car. It was designed to move people in a very roomy, luxurious and safe car at fast speeds down the Autobahn. Be warned, a 7-series can become a VERY expensive car to own if it hasn't been well taken care of.

The 328i is rather reasonable on the wallet if it has been maintained and can be turned into a pretty fun driving car with a proper suspension and other goodies. BMW engines are very robust and take a lot of beatings while giving back a long life, it can just be the little electronics things that fail over time that get annoying.

its got 89,000 miles on it and asking for $8800
the 740iL has 125,000 miles on it and asking $8000
im leaning towards the smaller car. its the 328i sport w/e that means.

It probably has the sport package (wheels, suspension, and seats). Is it 5-spd? Miles are pretty low and it would make a fine daily driver. I would take it to a BMW specialist to get it inspected for the cooling system, suspension, drivetrain, etc. to make sure it's in good shape.

Miles aren't as much of an issue as has it been taken care of and what does it currently need. You can only do so much over the internet so I would drive the cars and have them inspected by a real BMW nut that knows them like the back of his hand.
