What spark plugs do I need to get for an E36 OBD2 M3 turbo, I believe the rule of thumb is 2 degrees colder. I called a few part stores in my area and half of them cant figure it out.

How many degrees is the stock spark plugs, and which ones would I need (model number?)

Ditto on these plugs... Can be bought at Advance auto for less than 2.00 each...I believe a set cost me 11.00+ change I have yet to have a mis fire after about 4k miles. I will never go back to high dollar irridium plugs. Plus if the electrode breaks on these you wont trash a piston. These are the plugs the supra guys run up to 30psi Mine are gapped at .025. (NGK 6097)

What about these two guys? They are both running well in excess of 100rwhp over stock (both are atleast 200rwhp over stock)...:confused :

NGK' website has reccomendations for how many degrees colder than stock plug for hp enhanced cars. They say 1 heat range colder for every 75 to 100hp added (at the flywheel I assume). So basically what Godfather said above.

I know that seems to be the rule of thumb, but apparently it doesnt necessarily hold true. (as both Paradigm Guy @ 616whp and Bassmaster @ 400whp+ only run -1 stage plugs from stock)

What is the downside to running plugs that are too cold for your application? (ie running 2 stages colder when you only need plugs that are one stage closer)

Too cold & they will foul the plugs (electrode is covered in black), then they become harder to spark (needs more Voltage). Worst case is misfires. But in my case I havent had a problem with NGK irridium BKR8EIX, ymmv.

the colder the plug, the smaller the gap, guys... keep the gap around .023 or smaller, you will feel the difference.. the colder plugs prevent detonation, but also foul easier, so close the gap :)
