So I am not quite a veteran to the BMW scene, but I have adopted the "winter beater" thing already with my '86 325. Who else has a summer and winter BMW with pics? :D I'm kind of bored. :P

I've never seen the need for a winter beater. But then again, I spend most of my time in south GA and it really doesn't get that cold

I had an ix for a little while but sold it due to the fact that it was the 3rd 4wd/awd car in my stable.

I've already driven top down a few times this month. I have no need for a winter beater.

Ya, what is this winter you speak of? It's January, Boston is over sixty degrees. Regretting that I put on snow tires...

+1. Well kinda. I don't have a vert, but I have been riding with the windows down over the last few days.

I can top that. I am at Sugarloaf USA in Maine, where normally we would have had multiple below zero days by now. It almost hit 60 today up here. So...from the North Woods of Maine, "what is this winter you speak of?"

Summer: 1999 Z3 coupe (previously, 1995 325iC)
Winter: 2001 325xiT (with new snow tires, GREAT investment :( )

I drive mine all year 'round. Salt, sand, slush, snow, ice chunks; it's all good. It's just a car. If I had an F430, then I'd get a winter car.

I've been up there a few times, other than Tahoe there's not a whole lot to see. Small hicktowns, nice forests, and cold white sand that melts in the sun.

Well, the photo was taken last summer. The winter beater is actually sitting outside covered with ice. :)

either that is a photoshop or somebody really hates getting stuck.

I remember seeing that kit on a landcruiser a few years ago...designed by a father and son team, pretty cool -ish.

*edit - looks like the US Military is using them in Cali....that snow-less place. :D

My M3 is my winter-through-summer beater/daily driver, saving the Chevy from salt, winter ickiness and mileage accumulation :)

I believe the other main purpose they speak of is to take it easy on what they would consider their nicer summer car... see, I wouldn't know about that though, we don't get winter here

Man, yesterday it got REALLY cold, in the 60s I think!

I'm being sarcastic, by the way. I think it was actually in the 40s, but either way, absolutely no need for a winter beater around here at ALL.

No that is a "winter" "beater", not a "winter beater".

My winter is a beater is a 96 Bonneville, not a BMW but it goes through just about anything.

Haha, it hasn't been winter here really at all. No snow really to speak of! I don't mind it at all though! :D Tonight a dude came to test drive my E36, nice that we didn't have any snow or ice to deal with.
