Well guys, I have had my 1996 328is for a while. It has been a good car but it has 180+k on the clock and I just want something different. I want to spend no more then 15 grand on a different car. If you had that amount of money to buy a car with, what would you get? I do not care about practicality. I just want a fun car to drive. What do you suggest? It does not have to be a BMW.

The best buy out there is an E36 m3. I can't imagine any car being a better value for 15k.

I just think that I would get bored with another e36. Even if it is an M car. Do you all not agree?

VW GTI (but not reccomended because FWD sucks)
Transporter

wouldnt go with the Z3...my dad has one and its fun as hell to drive not to mention its just damn fine looking but to have a m3? Well anyways a $15,000 z3 would more than likely be a p.o.s.

I have never driven one but audi s4's (2000-2002 or 3 version b5?) seem like they would be a good alternative as they will produce way more power than an M3 with just a chip because they a twin turbos. However, I have heard they don't handle great and I don't knwo about reliability. There a many around 15k with low miles in my area.

I am kind of leaning torwards an s2000. They are so much fun to drive. It is a complete different car and I think that is what I am looking for. Has any one owned one?

I have an '01 S2000 and love it! Lot's of 3rd party mods available and it is so much fun to drive. Should be able to find one in the $15K-$17K range.

S2000 is a good choice.
That would be one of my first choices.
I would cough up another 4 or 5 grand and get a Z3 M but if not I'd proudly take the S2k.

S2K is a great choice. I love my E36 M3/4, I would also love a E39 540i/6, E34 M5, Porsche Boxster, Audi S4, Mercedes C43... a higher mileage Corvette C5 would rock also.

Thanks guys for your opinions. I am taking my car into the shop in a day or two to get some things done than it will be up for sale. I will keep you updated with any purchases!

$15k will get you a really nice low mileage 3000GT VR4. Probably a 97 model. With just a few bolt ons they really wake up. Just $1,500 in mods will get you an additional 80-100 hp over stock. Do some suspension mods and you have a well handling, high hp car. Of course I am just throwing a different option out to all of the people that keep yelling E36 M3 in every reply.

I was going to recommend an 00-02 audi s4....I had a hard time deciding when purchasing my e36 m3.

Not a bad choice at all. I haven't owned one but I've driven a few and they are a load of fun. Not sure I could live with one day2day, it's a little cramped in the interior and the engine is awful buzzy.

its no surprise that everyone is saying e36 m3... most of the forum members have e36's.... some may or may not have m3's tho.
I personally like the 540 idea... bigger, more grunt, and not as common as the e36's. hell, if you could afford it, I would say m5... that would blow the doors off of the m3.
American muscle out of the question? If not get yourself a nice Z28 or something
You should forget the m3 idea and spend the money on a twin-screw and other m3 killing mods for your 328. You've got the car and spent the time making it yours. Why would you pay a premium for something that is only a little bit better?

True, but i car has over 180k on it and i dont really want to put much more money into a car with that many miles.
