Was thinking about Style 5 wheels and wanted to know if the 245/40 would be safe on the wheel...I know its been done but wanted to hear some input, thanks.

That should be "safe", however, if it's going on the E36 in your sig, then you may want to go with a narrower tire, say 225 or even 215. 245 is a "normal", typical width fitment for 9" wide wheels

fender rolling and pulling will be involved because of the high offset.

but with what i just mentioned, it should work.

Thanks for the feedback, I know I will have to roll the fenders but am debating between Style 5's and K1's. The K1's are 8.5 though so I know the 245's would be fine with that.

You mean low offset, Style 5's have +20mm offset compared to closer to +40mm for E36

Pros of Style 5s:
Hawt
Strong
Unique(on E36s at least)

Cons of Style 5s:
Not light
Only 8 inches wide
Offset requires some modifications

Pros of K1s:
Light
Cheap
Accomodates 245s with ease
Simple design

Cons of K1s:
Not terribly strong
Very common
Simple design.

It's a tough choice, and it all boils down to what you want from the car. 245s will fit just fine on an 8, but the feedback will be somewhat less than on the 8.5.

Thanks for the input YV, I've had all similar thoughts...people have broken k1's on the street with my suspension firmness which is a bummer.

I'm curious if the K1's with 245's would fit with no fender rolling...or if the Style 5's with 235 or 245 would require more than just fender rolling.

8.5 is perfect for 245 tires, thats what BMW factory wheels use. 9" is a little to wide for 245, kosei k1 is a perfect wheel for 245 and the offset looks great. Rear quarter panel rolling will be necessary along with possible 5mm front spacer (its required on my E36). Hope this helps.

Oh yeah, sport package Z3 wheel's use 8.5 wide with 41mm offset in the rear. Those wheels fit great and not much to worry about rear quarter panels, however front spacers may (should) be required.

Thanks for the input, so are you running 245/17 on your E36...if so any pics? I had previously thought K1's could run w/o spacers on the E36.

sorry no pics on this computer, i'm running kumho v710's on my kosei's which are 245/45r17 and I have to run a 5mm spacer on the front and it also required the rear quarters rolled. I run stock Z3 wheels for the street, 7.5 in front and 8.5 in rear off of a 98 sport package car, 5 spoke wheels.

Ah, good to know. I was going to go for a 40 sidewall so maybe I could do without a spacer.

The first two are with the kosei's and the other two are with the Z3 wheels (7.7/8.5)

not 100% about the front but I think a spacer is needed but not 100%, the kumho race tires unfortunately only come in 45 series but 40 series is the way to go

Thanks for the pics and tips! After looking at that thick 45 sidewall I may be able to get away with a 40 sidewall and minimal modification.
