A few days ago, Shiv over at Vishnu Performance installed the Xede and dyno'd my car. Here are some pictures from my experience. The car runs great and exceeded my expectations. Under normal driving conditions, it feels like a stock 335i. But once you start to dip into the throttle, you can easily spin the rear wheels in first and second gear. Sixth gear now is almost like the stock fourth gear. If you thought there wasn't really a reason to downshift when passing other cars on the freeway (unless you wanted some extra fun), with the Xede now there really is NO reason to do so unless you like to waste more gas or just be captain jackass :D The only draw back is that I'll probably need new tires more frequently.

Here is another thread showing the installation, pretty much the same process I witnessed

On the rollers she goes and gets the A/F meter set up

Testing begins!!! This is my first time ever witnessing a live dyno session, and I can only imagine how loud it gets with cars running exhausts or straight pipes :wow:

interesting work. can you post that dyno in SAE rather then STD?

also, why is the car running so lean till about 4500 rpms?

Damn those are awesome numbers

I've got a question though.. why a 91 octane map? Is that the standard octane recommended for the car?

cause that car is stuck in what you and I refer to as the land of ghetto fuel, California.

ahh yesss I didn't notice the OP's location :(

How much more HP/TQ you think you'd be able to squeeze out with a higher octane? (non race gas)

it all depends on the capabilities of the tuner and the car he's working on.

to give you an example on my own car, I push out power at 11 psi (on 93 octane) that others (with the same kit) push out at 13 psi (on 91 octane).

more octane allows for a more aggressive tune without dangerous knock.

when it comes to the 335i, I couldn't even guess since it's a completely different platform and tuning interface.

They only gave me the chart in STD, which is fine by me since even if atmospheric conditions change, power will not fluctuate in a dramatic fashion. Just about all the cars I've seen with the Xede upgrade has had a consistent delta % change. I wasn't extremely concerned with achieving the maximum numbers, but if the runs were constant and improvement was noticeable, I'm a happy driver.

I was also concerned at first with the lean a/f but what is strange is that prior to BMW updating the software, the car ran even more lean at the low end. Now, the a/f is just about where stock is until the mid range when it becomes a bit more rich to ensure it has enough fuel with the increase in boost at the higher rpms. I suspect BMW tuned it to run lean at the bottom end of the rev range so you'll get better throttle response.

There are some cars in Texas and Florida that have the Xede, but since they are not all on the same dynos, it's hard to get concrete numbers. But Shiv did mention that with 93 octane, you can expect anywhere between a 5-10hp gain with different timing.

Awesome to keep seeing those consistent #'s from xede. Here's a good FAQ on 335i tuning and xede upgrade

Hoping to see other tuners tune this beast soon :buttrock
