View Full Version : Any love for the stock BMW wheels?

I find that I like a lot of the stock BMW wheels quite a bit. Including mine :-)

I know that my 15" wheels are a thing from yesteryear, but I think they look good. Besides, I think if I spent a wad of cash on 17" or 18" wheels and they rode harsher then I wouldn't be happy with them.

Anyone else planning on keeping their original BMW wheels on their car?

i love my 15" bottle-caps when they are washed, unfortunately they need a repaint and the brake dust sticks horribly which makes them look pretty gross most of the time.

in my opinion, the stock 17" radial spoke wheels look great on our cars. they are the same 15s that you're using but in a 17" wheel size.

I had these for a while and didn't want to change......

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/95/237557670_785c78772a_b.jpg

But they just wouldn't let me exploit the car's power and I was reluctant to go really fast at times, as on limit handling was scary. I now have staggered 17" contours and it feels planted to the road and handles how a Bimmer should. I personally wouldn't go bigger than 17s as the ride will suffer, plus they compliment the E36 shape perfectly.

Good! I have (4) Mounted wheels and tires, that came off my 94 / 540i 225x60x15HR...........Continental rubber, 65% wear left.........

Well it's not that i love 'em, i just think they come in handy for me, cuz i don't keep any car for longer than 8 months so i basically remove all ''nice'' stuff from them and put it on another car, (rims included).

I have the same wheels as the original poster, but recently got 18"s, so the 15"s are now my winter wheels. I was trying to find the 17" version of the 15"s forever, but couldn't find any local, I would have bought em in a heartbeat. The 15"s are just a tad too small for me.

I have the same 15's as the OP on my 97 328is. They aren't too bad for now but I think 16's are the smallest to go on an e36.

So, my wheels are called bottlecaps. I can see why.

Part of the reason I like bottlecaps is that they clean up real nice. They are a very light shade of silver when they are very clean. Another reason I like them is that shout out "BMW here". BMW's and bottlecaps seem to be
synonymous. One thing I don't like on BMW's are wheels that remind me of other car wheels.

How about these BMW issued BBS RC041's:

(in the UK these were factory fitted to 328iS coupes)

I bought this set 2 months ago from a UK based wheel supplier.

I have no closeups of the stamps, but they have BMW and BBS stamped in them as well as Geschmiedet, which is German for forged.

They are completely refurbished (stamp tells me this set is 1995) and the lip is polished to a mirror finish and kept unlaquared. So these will only be under my car for spring/summertime.
You can see them P'shopped underneath my car in my sig.

That is because the front brakes do most of the braking. It is completely normal.

I like my 15" wheels because the tall sidewalls let me drive to work and back without bending a wheel or getting a pinch flat. Railroad tracks and heavy equipment make for a really bad combination when it comes to asphalt.

I detest contours. LTWs and DSIIs I like... Contours bug me. I guess its from living in the northeast, where you see the contour reps on every damn european car on the road with snow tires. I've seen the reps on Mercedes, Audis, and seemingly every iteration of BMW.

Im still rolling on the stocks and I absolutely hate them. Theyre the honeycom things. Ive got 2 major beefs with them. One is that theres just to much god damn going on in them. It pisses me off when wheels look like solid pieces of metal. My other problem with them is that they are IMPOSSIBLE to clean. I gotta get into every single little nook and crany to get the brake dust out of there, and it takes a good 3 hours to get all 4 cleaned off.

I like my sport wheels, but they are a pain to clean. All the little spokes collect brake dust so easily. I'm pretty sure they were made by bbs, or it's just engraved in the wheels.

I would upgrade to 17's if I had the money, but I would probably buy some BMW wheels, not aftermarket.

I'm perfectly happy with the stock rims. They hold enough tire for all-around driving, and you're guaranteed not to have any speedometer, fitment or brake issues with them. I just bought some Wheel Wax, and will be trying that out to reduce dust buildup and help with cleaning them.
