Im thinking about buying this car.

http://nh.craigslist.org/car/253948854.html

It needs and passenger side mirror. I looked on bavauto but couldnt find a listing. Anyone had to replace one of these? What is it going to take? I figure the best route is used / junkyard. not sure though.

Im also nervous about the trans with the high miles. Its an auto. I know on these cars they refer to them as slushboxes.

Any input / advice / things to look out for appreciated

Also the m50 has a timing chain which doesnt need to be replaced correct?

the timing chain does not need to be replaced, you are correct, and i would not worry too much about the high miles, these engines can take it..

i'd be more concerned with how the interior looks and that auto tranny, hopefully it will hold out, but i really have no idea how to tell if they will last, im not an auto fan myself..

goodluck with it though!! looks like a good deal to me!

On a more serious note, it looks like a good deal. I would look at it, drive it and maybe request that a competant mechanic look at it. If all checks out, buy it.

Not a bad deal. Just be aware that little stuff can get expensive quickly on these cars. On the upside, the parts classifieds are full of E36 parts, so that can save you a bit. Mileage isn't nearly as big of a deal as condition, the only thing a neglected car is good for is parting out, because it will suck you dry.
