Hi guys, I already put this post on the E30 forums on accident. I now realize what years the E30 and E36 are. but anyway, I would like your guys opinions on my situation.
Im currently in college, and I want a new car. I have a job that pays a moderate amount of money, and I can buy a 1995 M3 that has 50,000 miles on it for $10,000. it is in very nice condition and has been taken care of (its my uncles car right now, and he takes very good care of his cars).
I currently have a 1996 honda del sol vtec. i will be selling this to buy a new car. I am getting sick of only being able to hold 1 person, so i want a car that can hold 4 people, but still is fun to drive, and gets decent gas mileage.
I dont have that much money, but I can do it. The thing that I am worried about is the maintenance. I will be driving this car as my daily driver, and i will be driving about 100 miles a week(I guess). So would it be wise to buy this car? or should I save up and by one later in life? Sorry about posting it twice, but any advise would be helpfull. Thanks.

No. don't get it.
M3 = must have another car, and no, not a 318.

how about this you would be a retard to pass up a clean 95 m3 with 50k miles for 10 grand!!:eyecrazy

any e36 is not bad for maintenance they are very reliable cars! only small glitches here and there with sensors and such.

just make sure you delete the clutch fan, have or put a metal t-stat housing on, and have a metal impeller water pump.

anyone else can chime in on what would hinder the car if they break.

No, don't get it. If you have to question whether you want it, you definitely won't want it once the bills start coming in.

gotta have the bmw bug to drive one.. you probably wont like the little maintenance issues that come along pretty often.

If you will put forth the effort of doing all the basic maintenance on the car you will be fine.

If you take it to the dealer every time you need new oil, you're gonna hate it.

But with 50,000 miles, I really wouldn't worry about it.

oh ya, that price is insane BTW, on second thought, I really don't think you'll like the car, just tell your uncle I'm interested in it and will pick it up tomorrow.

if you are strapped for cash and a college man you probably will not be able to afford insurance on a M3 (well if mommy and daddy pay for it). If that is not an issue go for it and you will have a fun car.

Ya i know it is a very good price. thats one of the main reasons im interested in it. my parents wont be paying for it, and im gonna have to make payments. I can afford the payments, and I will be doing most of the work myself. My dad seems to think that the insurance will not go up much, but i need to go get a quote so I can really see how much it will be.

your insurance will quadruple haha

one thing i noticed above... gas mileage... unless it's a 318, and maybe 325, but not really, E36 and good mileage do not go together whatsoever... my 328 eats it up too fast...
oh and the maintenance shouldn't be bad if you take care of it, and since it has only 50k, i'm guessing everything's good on it now, so if you start replacing parts now, other parts won't mess up later, and you should be fine...

i would however advise you to have about $3-5 sitting safe in the bank for this car, cuz when stuff goes wrong, it all goes wrong haha

i say get it because even if you see you can't afford it, you can make at least 3-5k on it by selling

good luck

deffinately buy it. That is a great price, and 50k miles is great. A lot of the small maintenance problems dont usaully arise until around 100k, so you would have plenty of time to change out things that it will need. I dream of the opportunity to buy a M3 with 50k on it for 10grand. Atleast you could drive it for awhile and turn around and sell it and make a pretty penny off of it.
