Here's the M5 page:http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=31978&d=1166762730
Basically all the negative remarks relate to the 6-spd and constantly active DSC, obviously as the 7-speed SMG was designed for the V10 and is the best choice IMO. Of course the 6-spd is a US only option. Sort of sad the S6 is slower than the 550i and E550 though.

The M5 is such a beautiful car...
A new M is now up on my list of dream cars, behind the Veyron, but now ahead of an 03 ZHP. Quite a list for a 17 year old, eh? I need an easy and legal way to make enough cash to buy one by the time I turn 21.

OK, but in 12 years when I can actually affoard a E60M5 all the SMG cars will be maintanence nightmares and the 6spd's will still be relativly trouble free and on the road...
...nevermind, ALL the E60's will be nightmares and my E34M5 will still still be relativly trouble free and on the road.

Haha, that car has so many electronics in 12 years they will all be maintenence nightmares.
SMG FTW.

Seriously, most new cars are disposable items.

You are so right! I can't imagine who they are going to sell a 7 year old E60 m5 to when it runs out of warranty. 21 different shift settings + I drive = vehicular manslaughter when you see the repair bill$$$$$

I hate to say it as a bmw enthusiast, but the best looking of the three is the audi s6.

as obsessed as I am with bmw, as time goes it seems less and less likely that I will own bmw's newer the early 2k cars, only thing I'd wand thats post y2k would be an e39 m5 and an e46 m3 and the s54 z3. and even those cars have serious electronics in comparison to the e30 m3 and e34 m5. that settles it, next car is a 91 m5 hehe.
EDIT: corrected to e46 m3 duh.

DAMN BMW. You can't turn off the DASC bec of INSURANCE??? Therefore the car is 1/2 second slower to 60 and in the 1/4th and does the lange change maneuver 5mph slower. This car deserves to loose I am ashamed BMW did that.

That's interesting as I find the S6 so outdated looking already, I think the M5 SMG is easily the best pick overall.

Thats a shame, how can you drive a BMW the way enthusiasts want to without turning the damn traction control off. As good as traction control has become for road cars these days(atleast lightyears ahead of the stupid ASC+T on my car), I still think that ANY performance car should come with a defeatable traction control. Anyone with any common sense knows that beating on a car in the manner that a manual allows you to will lead to premature repairs. But... WHO CARES! If someone is dumb enough to go around dumping the clutch in a 500hp car they deserve what they got coming to them. Come on BMW, get rid of that stupid constant traction control.
EDIT: I also realize that the 6 speed just wasn't meant for the S65 V10 and that SMGIII is definitely the way to go for this car.
