View Full Version : Dry Leather
I have Dakota Black leather i my 335i sedan. I was surprised how dry the new leather looks and feels. I applied a coat of Zaino Z10 to the door panels and dash. It drank it up like a sponge. It feels much better now but could probably use another coat to even it out. I guess I'll do the seats next. I hated to have to do this so soon because I didn't want to alter the new car smell. It needed it though. I'm really surprised BMW doesn't condition the leather.

It is good to condition the leather early. It will prevent cracking and I dont think the leather feels dry but nice and supple. I have some Z9/Z10 coming in the mail soon and will be ready to apply it so my leather doesn't start to crack.

I used Zaino Z10 on my C5 and thought it actually was the closest thing to real leather smell of anything I ever tried. My Gray Dakota still has the new leather smell, so the Z10 will have to wait until that is 99.999% gone.

Actually, I think its good to condition it early, regardless of the smell. You can get a jump start on preventing the leather from cracking and drying early on. The smell is not that strong and I hear it goes away.

Is this only for the Dakota leather, or standard "vinyl" leather as well?

Dakota leather
Actually, it did not alter the new car "ether" like I thought it would. I left the windows down with the car in the garage. I think the new car smell has more to do with the plastics than the leather. Anyway...no need to wait, after a day or two it was back to normal.

Dakota leather
i see your point, but if he wanted to use it on vinyl he could:
"Z-10 Leather in a Bottle™ leaves a non-sticky, greaseless, stain repelling, natural luster and restores the supple feel and smell of new leather. Does a great job on vinyl interiors and dashboards too. One whiff and you will agree its Leather in a Bottle™."

My wife borrowed my 06 330 at two days of age to go pick up some chinese food...she forgot the mongolian beef in the car for approximately 3 hours. That will kill your new car smell...very quickly.
Griot's Leather Scent works well for providing that new car leather smell, and they have some very good leather care products that Have worked well for me.

Actually, a new car smell is attributed mainly to adhesives used in the car which will wear down in scent after a while.
