Hi all,
Back with more questions. I have the 07 328i Coupe with comfort access (leave the fob in your pocket ...)

It locks & unlocks just fine, but I never see the blinking red light (under the rear view mirror) that says the alarm is working.

Owner's manual seems to indicate that the alarm just arms/disarms itself from the 1st day without me having to go into some options & turn it on or select "alarm features".

The car does also have prem, sport, NAV.

Anyone know why red light no blinky? Thanks.

I'm pretty sure the alarm is an accessory you buy seperately, did you have this installed in your car??

Hi Robert,

No did not buy any extra alarm.

Does that mean all I have is locked doors & maybe a column lock? That's it?

Must be a pretty easy car to steal.

The 3 series comes standard with "coded driveaway protection" which is basically a starter disable. It uses a rolling code in your key to prevent starting the engine if your key is not used.

The alarm gets you the siren w/interior motion detectors and red blinking light.

The Alarm System is now a $600 option. It only gives you protection from "smash and grab" type thefts and some deterrence from having the red blinking clown nose when the doors are locked. The car without the alarm system is "almost" impossible to steal with the engine disablement feature without using the key. Also BMW Assist can locate your car through GPS anywhere in the world in a matter of minutes. About the only way to steal it is to hoist it on to a flatbed and drive away. GPS can still locate it immediately. I would like to have the red blinking clown nose as a deterrent but don't think it is worth $600. This must be another "cost-saving" feature for BMW.....like the lack of locking lug nuts on the wheels on the '07 E92's.:thumbdown

You can make it blink yourself!:)

I have seen that post and don't think it applies to the new E92's. I can tell you that my BMW Service Advisor intially told me he could activate it on my '07 E92. When I went in to have it done, the Alarm Technician said it couldn't be activated on the new E92's because of hardware/software differences on the new models. If it is activated, he said the car would think the alarm is activated and would not start. Therefore you can't get it activated on the new E92's without buying the optional ($600) alarm system.

I have the alarm system, but it was thrown in by the dealer gratis to close the deal. I like the clown nose. Besides the motion detection, one other thing it does is sense if an attempt is made to put it on a flatbed. While the GPS based recovery is nice, I have a friend whose stolen car was recovered via LoJack. It was in such a condition that he wished they had never found it.
