This afternoon on my way to work in my 1989 325i, I rear-ended a BMW X5. I usally do not take my e30 out, but today I figured the sun was out and to take it for a ride. I know I am going to be sore tomorrow...

Long story short - the driver's side quarter panel, hood, bumper, radiator, front supports are damaged (I will try to post pics tonight). It was leaking the radiator fluid all over so....

I bought the car for $1,000 - do I part it and call it a day or try to repair it? I had it looked at Motorsport Recycling two months ago and they recommended to replace the timing belt and suspension components. He gave the car a thumbs up and told me it looks like I had a good little car.

I'm torn - I only pay liability on the car because it seemed to me insurance would total the car anyway. Any feedback would be appreciated.

ohh man, that sucks, if you part it out you may be able to make some $ back, so no worries! Pics of damage?

That sucks. Part it out and buy yourself another E30.

Bump for pictures - any opinions? I have it listed in the For Sale section...

Still torn if I try to fix it or just sell it...

Trying to find another e30 the last few days has been tough and I just missed out on a GTI... Maybe that was a good thing and I can find an e30 in the next few weeks...

Looks like you have to sell your left testicle to fix it. Parting out is probably the only option.

Thanks for all the replies...

I have been looking around for another; that es doesn't really interest me. Thanks for the suggestion.

The X5 didn't look too bad - the rear bumper was scratched up, but it did not look like the rear quater panel was affected - but I wasn't looking at it, I was mourning my car... The driver of the X5 was trying to avoid hitting the car in front of him so he steered left - when I hit him, he scratched his rim and bumper on the barrier.

BSaint - I sent you a PM

If you only have liability, the car is yours to do as you well.

I would just give MSR a call, Im sure they can give you some sound advice.

:(

Just keep it and fix it. If the parts are going to be to expensive then either sell it as is or part it out. Anways good luck!

Get another E30 and part that one out. That really sucks though.

Yes - this was the one posted on CL/NJ. I was trying to get rid it quickly. Oh well... Been hunting and missed an 87 325is by an hour. I called and the guy had someone coming out first thing yesterday morning.

Found 2 e30s but they are autotragic and that just does not appeal....

Happy New Year !

Was the door messed up before or after the wreck?

Since it was only a $1,000 I would just part it out. Unless you have a real strong likeness to that EXACT car (exact VIN) I would just total it out.

The other option is finding another e30 $1,000 or less, buying it to restore your own, and then parting out whatevers left. Unless you magically find everything you need at one junk yard
