I wanted to get opinions on what people have found to be a better type of intake system to use? Comparing the long tube intake the goes placed low behind the fog lights, Dinan style, or the traditional short tubing intake with the heat shield right behind the headlight, ECIS, Conforti style intakes??
I'd appreciate if anyone has actual comparable data that supports arguments for producing HP. Thanks in advance for everyones input

had both, no difference in dyno results. Pick which ever you like the best, no performance difference.

I have a Carbonio (a la Dinan) and I don't think it matters one way or the other. Personally, I'm waiting for a cheap Conforti to come up because I don't want to have to worry about hydrolocking due to a deep puddle or misjudgement on my part.

I have dinan and they have a waterproof sock so unless you are going through a deep puddle you wont hydrolock the engine. I think its better to get a true cai if your spending the money. I have the dinan intake with sock and have had no problems at all with hydrolocking or anything like that and its been working great.

AA (ECIS style), and I like it because of the way the heatshield and grill look in the engine bay:

the dinan/carbonio/cosmos intakes that are the long tube type are usually always a lot "louder" than the "short ram" conforti/aa/k&n intakes. i think it has to do with the length of the tube. my dinan intake has such a louder "grunt" and is louder in general compared to my friends conforti and my other friends k&n intake. the long tube type is louder.

Eurosport for me. Looks the best too. :D
Btw, if you plan on ZKW headlights, Dinan is a PITA to work around...and it's overpriced to boot.

TRUE...that's the only reason I don't have one...especially a pita w/ euro headlights AND auto leveling motors/connector.
BUUUT I just saw this dinan cai on ebay, new, and it looks like the new tube has a cutout to accomodate euro lights...can anyone confirm this? Or am I just seeing things in this link...

I have the Dinan, great choice for the intake as it sounds very nicely throughout the whole rpm range. It gives a nice little scream up top. If you leave the Dinan filter on then and only then does it require fiddling with the ZKW's when you take it out for whatever reason. If you just hitup amazon.com for a K&N filter to fit that intake it will make life a hell of a lot easier with ZKW's.

It looks like whoever is selling that intake customized it to fit euro headlights because it does not look factory. I have heard the euros will fit with some shaving of the eur headlights. I will be getting some euro headlight soon so hopefully it wont be to much of a bitch to fit.

Since theres really no power difference, then choose the one thats easier to clean and replace.. and thats clearly NOT the dinan...

my car came with a debaffled airbox, I was content with this...until I scored a used Conforti Intake for $150.
To say that it's my favorite mod on the car thus far, is an understatement. The sound is amazing!
Otherwise, it's a waste of money that doesn't make my car any faster.

CHeck out the group buy section a vendor is selling replica gruppe m intakes. We need 1 or 2 ore people to make it happen! They're inexpensive too only $210 shipped. All intakes are pretty much the same but I really like the look of the gruppe m.

I think most people would agree that the group m intakes are the best looking. However i'm skeptical about these because it's soo incubated into that small piece of carbon fibre that it looks like it would restrict it from picking up as much air as the other intakes simply because it's so enclosed inside the carbon box. But maybe i'm wrong

the dinan type intake "whistles" when civilized driving, and "grunts" when WOT. does the short ram "whistle" when civilized driving too, cuz i've only heard it make noise when it is WOT

If I were to get this do you think the cut out would restrict airflow?
