View Full Version : Removing "country" decals
There isn't too much on removing bumper stickers here (I did search) but I have a slightly different problem. A previous owner of my car applied one of the foreign country stickers to the car (ie UK, DE=germany, etc), right on the trunk where apparently they are supposed to be. I've got two questions. First, how do I get the thing off? At first inspection it looks like a bumpersticker, but these don't seem to be deisgned to come off at all. Second, this is on the paint itself, and I'm guessing that it's been there for quite a number of years (5?) in the California sun. Presumably the paint around it has faded more than the protected part under the sticker. Anything to do about that?
The color is Bronzit, in case it matters. The whole car has a mild case of sun fade, although the paint is generally in fairly good condition. I'd post a pic but I'm not where the car is at the moment.

you can try a hairdryer on the label, get it nice and warm and then try to peel it off, slowly...
Or, if the hairdryer is not powerful enough, you can buy a small heat gun from Home Depot or Lowes and try that... the object is to heat the sticker so that the glue on back starts to lose it's adhesive properties.
Just peel slowly.
Once you get the label off, you can try WD40 to remove the residue left on the lid. After that, wash the car thoroughly and apply some wax or polish to that area.
This should work, good luck.
I've removed "dealership" emblems and labels by using the above methods with no problems ever. It does take time, because you do not want to mess up the painted surface below the label.
OK, so they're basically just bumperstickers. I'll try the heat next time I get a chance - thanks.
I saw your location and for just a split second I thought it said "New Jerez" and I wondered just where the heck they'd build a *new* Jerez track! :)

To get the sticky stuff off I recommend Avon's Skin So Soft. It works a little better than WD40 and your wife/girl friend is bound to have some. If not, you buy some, use it, give it to her and make some points.
