Hi,
I'm planning on purchasing either a 328 or 335 coupe. If I decide to go with the 328, I was wondering if I should upgrade the Logic Sound System for $1,200. Is it worth it?
Also, are the default consoles single CD's, or does it come equipped with a 5 or 6 in dash CD changer?
Thanks!
Best,
Larry

If you get the 335i Coupe, the upgraded Logic7 sound system is default.
I just got my 335i Coupe this past Thursday and have driven the sh*t out of it! The sound system is worth the money and tears up my Nakamichi system in my Lexus.
For the coupe, the in-dash is only a single CD player. If you order the 6-disc cd changer from the dealer, it will be truck mounted. I didn't want that option and am looking for alternatives to put it in the glove box (if it's possible).
Hope that helps

Yes, go for the H/K system.

The Logic7 sound system is well worth it. Don't go without it.

Sweet! Thanks for the quick reply. I bought a Mazda Protege5 in 2002, and it cost $500 to add a 6 CD In Dash Changer. Now, I'm wondering how it isn't possible for BMW to add a In Dash CD Changer like Mazda, but to have it in the trunk? Does this mean every time you want to change a CD, you would have to do it from the trunk?
If I spend $1,200 to upgrade to the Logic7 system, I would definitely feel cheated out from not spending $3,800 more to upgrade from a 328 coupe to a 335 coupe (since it includes the Logic7 System). Plus, the 335 coupe has automatic power adjustable seats in the front, two exhausts, 60 additional horse power and twin turbo. The only downside of this is the gas consumption (since I drive in traffic to and from work), and the increase of insurance cost.
What do you guys think?
Keep in mind, when upgrading from the stock speaker system to the Logic7, it cost $1,200 for 2 additional upgraded speakers and DSP (Digital Sound Processing). Does it really make that much of a difference in sound quality?
Thanks,
Larry

As far as going for the 328 or the 335, I went for the 328XI because I wanted an AWD for the winter months. If weather was not a consideration, I would have jumped to the 335. The Logic 7 IS that much better!

I see. I guess I'm very fortunate in not having too much weather change out here in California. Did you pay $1,200 for the Logic7 as well? How are you liking it so far?
What other packages did you get?

Yes, I opted for the Logic 7, cold-weather(you MIGHT not need it!!), sport pkg, premium, Auto trans, Sirius and the ground effects pkg. including the spoiler. I added OZ wheels and Blizzaks for the winter months. Silver/black combo. I am thrilled with this car!

When you do an options for 328 vs. standard equipment for 335 comparison the 335 looks like an amazing value. There's a post in here somewhere where someone did that and the difference was very little. Essentially, you're paying a little bit more for the horsepower.
Get the 335 if the little extra money doesn't bother you. You won't be sorry.

I calculated, and it turned out to be $4,000 for the extra 60 horsepower and torque. I just graduated from college, and I planned on spending my first year's salary for this car.
I'm very torn between the 328 and 335. I commute through traffic 1 hour to and from work, so the speed is not a factor for me. I just want the luxury and performance of driving a BMW. Somebody wanna help weigh on this? 328 for $38,000 or 335 for $45,000?

DSP (Digital Sound Processing).
Thanks,

DSP=Waste of money if that's all it is.
only upgraded speakers for $1200? You can get a lot of aftermarket stuff for that $

Not so in Canada. Both cars are similarily equipped albeit with a few things that are different on the 335....difference is $8,000.

You only need to listen to the two systems one after the other to know that the Logic 7 is a lot more than that. The Logic 7 is a must upgrade if you enjoy listening to music at all IMHO.

I advise getting the 328i, but don't spend $1200 on the Logic 7. You can get much more out of an aftermarket system. And I only recommend this since you're talking about spending your first year's salary. I say that because the 335i has not 60 but 70 more horsepower, and from dyno tests I've seen the 335i has more like 330 hp and 340 lb-ft of torque. $400 is easily worth that much hp and torque.
Otherwise I suggest looking for a used 2003 M3. It may not have the torque of the 335i but it is everything a sports car should be, with BMW's touch. Good luck.

Sorry to be the voice of reason, but make sure you can afford the insurance for either car you get. I know it can be VERY pricey, presuming that since you just got out of college, you don't have a very long driving history.

Thanks for the being the voice of reason TRMD. Hahaha.
How much do you pay for insurance? I was planning on having the car under my mother's name, and I as the secondary driver to lower insurance cost. Would that work?

Being on your Mom's insurance policy will definitely save you money.
I pay around $450 every six months for my '06 325i - and I have 37 years of driving experience !! My daughter owns a Honda Element, and they wanted almost $1300 every six months if she was on her own policy. Since she's on my policy, it only costs her $375.
