I've got a leaky oil pressure switch, so I'm going to swap mine out. Can't seem to find a DIY write-up. Seems very straight forward, but I don't want to miss anything. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
I searched (here, m3f.c and google), but no luck.

i'd first check to see if your current oil pressure swith is not loose before buying a new one.
job is pretty straight forward:
1) locate oil pressure switch behind filter housing
2) place a rag under the switch to catch any oil that might drip out
3) unplug harness
4) unscrew old oil pressure switch
5) install new pressure switch (reverse as removal of old one)
6) don't overtighten!

I know my car isn't an M3 but is there this Oil Pressure switch in my e36 also? It seems I have oil leaking from around the oil filter housing but its not from the oil filter at all.
Also, the oil leak is inconsistant. Sometimes it leaves a drop or 2 then the next day it leaves a river!!
Am I having the same problem?
Thanks for the help (and sorry for jacking the thread!)

Yes.
Maybe the switch or the gasket for the housing.
Not the filter cap gasket, but the housing to engine one.

My old E36's oil filter housing sprang a leak at the steel inserts in the aluminum casting.

If its the gaskets or the switch, is it expensive to replace? How much (average new price) is it for a gasket or switch?
Thanks.
