Hey guys I'm still looking for a 540i/6, but recently I started loving the lines of the E36 M3. And now that college apps are finishing up, I want to pick up a car early January. So, I was just wondering what your guys thoughts are on these two cars (Yeah I realize they are completely different, and should be treated that way). But if you have any info regarding problems known with the E36 M3 or pros/cons between the two please chime in.

Thanks

I have owned both and they are quite different. Straight line speed is similar, though they drive completely different. The M3 has very short gearing and feels a lot "sportier" when you're driving around, and obviously handles a lot better.

The M3 is probably going to be the more reliable and cheapest to own. The M3 is more fun to drive, while the 540i/6 is more comfortable.

I actually got rid of my M3 because the backseat was just too small for my son's car seat- his feet were jammed up against the back of the front seat. This may or may not matter to you, but it's something to consider if you have kids.

I've been thinking about getting a M3 sedan, so I showed my gf one. She said "what are you 17?".:stickoutt She think the 540 looks like an old mans car. Not as much now that I have the borbet wheels on for winter though.

There's a huge aftermarket for the E36, not so much the E34.

Yeah, i noticed the potential for the E36. Estoril Blue definitely an immaculate color, but i feel like its such a kid's car (even though i am 17).

i want an M3 as well, however i dont view it as a kids car.... i think i will miss my 5 if i got one though..... its nice to be different and not have a 3 series like every other bmw guy out there.....
