View Full Version : Which Lip: Rieger vs. DTM

Hey guys. Ive narrowed it down to 2 choices for a front bumper add on. Im leaning towards rieger but I could be persuaded. I cannot afford ACS or Alpina, so please stay close to my price range. In addition I will be lowering (waiting for winter to pass) it and throwing on some wheels (:itsamystery). So which lip will compliment my ride better, Rieger or DTM????
My car for reference:

Reiger (Hope you dont mind Antrieb, let me know if you do)

Rieger all the way - clean, subtle, yet menacing and aggressive.

Neither.
540i brake ducts, or used M5 lip.

I liked the old sig. Rear shot B&W I think. that one was the best

1) m-tech aero (the one on gamite's calypso car)
2) m5 front
3) rieger (molded?)
4) 540 brake ducts
5) DTM
in that order

Yeah, I'm debating about buying NikosX's torn-up M5 front lip...

No love for the DTM. It was good being original.

Rieger. It flows better with the lines of the car IMO.

I think an OEM approach would be a better look then the aftermarket options. Even though the aftermarket options look great, I still think the OEM looks better.

Did you chop off the center, or buy the two side ones separately later?

i had both sets, dtm lip spoiler and dtm corner splitters. about a year later after i got the dtm lip spoiler, another black e34 in the area wound up getting the dtm lip spoiler. uniqueness factor was gone, so decided to switch over to the splitters and sold the lip.

Sheesh, so your bumper sported the DTM lip, DTM splitters, then the 540 brake ducts. No wonder it was having some trouble staying together towards the end there :D

of the two, i'd say reiger.
but with that in mind, is it possible to put the 540 ducts into the reiger lip? that might look cool... then again maybe not... that's the same reiger spoiler from abrahams? might need one myself.

I think it would be tacky with both if at all possible. It will also be extremely low in the front and not so much elsewhere. I would say either or for sure

I'm going to go a different direction here.
Dont need LIP Just need drop and some stagger wheels.

Its not completely out of the running, but at the price and rarity its not looking too promising.

Looks like reigers in the lead, but 540i ducts are a close second. Keep the opinions coming...

Of the two listed - Rieger. However, you could save the $250 and put it towards better wheels, tires or maybe you'd be 50% of the way towards an 840 BBK for the front to stuff under the new front rims. Just a random thought...

Leave it stock and get wheels that are a bit bigger (16s or 17s would be my preference), and maybe drop it just a hair, although the drop is optional. Then if you absolutely must do something, consider 540 ducts, but that's it. That's what I would do. I much prefer understated elegance, rather than modding for the sake of modding. Don't fix what ain't broke.
But if you insist upon some aftermarket get up, the Rieger is the better option of the two. The DTM doesn't flow with the car AT ALL.

Alpina lip ta def i think the alpina one is the nicest too. but good luck finding one, and if you do, the price might scare you.
