Paint protection warranty/Tire warranty

Hi all,

Just wondering if any of you purchased this additional warranty. Is it worth getting the tire/rim warranty? Also, the dealer mentioned something about the paint protection warranty? My friend tells me they're just trying to make money and I don't need these additional warranties.

I ususally do not waste the money on the warrenties....however, I did take the tire one. Only because of the run flats and if I should hit a curb or something they will replace the tires and rims....Having never dealt with the run flat tires it gave me a bit of peace of mind.

I didn't purchase any warranty. Over here in Portland Oregon, Les Schwab fixes run flat tires just like any other tire as long as the sidwall is not compromised like any other tire. I guess if you get a nail or bolt in the side you will have a problem, but then again, you will have that with a regular non-run flat tire. I had a flat a month ago on my run flat tires and drove on them till the next morning and got it fixed with no problem. Don't buy any warranties.

I never buy extended warrenties, my credit card provides an additional year warrenty on everything I purchase with it ;)

Once I got a Sony laptop with extended warrenty from my father, a year to two later...the power jack broke...Had a temp fix in place until the motherboard fizzed out and only booted up to the blue screen of death... CompUSA tried replacing everything from the hard drive to the motherboard to no avail...the extended warrenty gave me a $hitty replacement of the same value which I sold later for a new Dell.

Ditto, I will be purchasing the extended warranty for the new ride too. I don't want any expensive surprises after the initial 4 year warranty is up.

I did not get either warranty:

Extended Warranty: I don't drive much and always hit the years before the miles. Also, I bought an extended warranty on my 04' Dodge Dakota that I am trying to sell which is making the cost higher than KBB and Edmunds (the good thing is that it is transferrable. Make sure that this one is transferrable if you are not sure if you are going to sell your car before the warranty is up. I also recommend that you put enough down payment in your financing or pay cash for the warranty so you don't end up upside down if you are going to sell / trade the car before the end of the extended warranty.

Tires: I did research on the run flats and over time the cost of repair has steeply declined. The finance lady tried to convince me that one tire repair is more than the warranty, which I found not to be true. I have never had a rim problem and only one tire problem (because I was impatient and drove on the shoulder in a construction area). I am going to take my chances.

So a weekend before the x-mas weekend I get a nail in one of my runflasts from parking on gravel. $350 for a new tire. Covered. Just hit a deer the other day. Kinda. Saw it at the last second and swearved. Only nicked my left mirror. busted glass and outside cover. Had the entire thing replaced. Get the car back from the dealer this last Friday night from the deer incident. Sunday night I goto get some groceries and on the way back there was some kind of wreck were they didnt clean up any of the smaller loose stuff. Ran over some of that and blew out my same rear tire that had just been replaced like half a month ago because of the nail. Another $350 tire. Warranty has already paid for itsself.

Brushup against a curb and scrape your rim. Warranty coveres it. Its a must have for only $800!!!

Wow...you must be in the 1% of people they don't make tons of money on from selling this warranty.

From the prior 2 cars I had, I always seem to have trouble with tires or rims. How I wished I had tire/rim warranty on my last 2 cars, but I made sure I did it on my e92 coupe!

Besides piece of mind, our cars are not low maintenance cars. I expect to use my warranty at least once before the 4 years are up and that alone will pay for it.

Oh, I was able to negotiate the tire/rim warranty to $500! Try to do the same since you can't really do much with the price of the car.

The tire warranty in South Florida is $599 and worth it if you get at least two flats in 4 years.

The dealership I got my BMW from is located 5 miles away from the NJ boarder... how do I talk down from a grand to 500?

I declined all extended warrenty from the dealership...and I asked if I can get them later down the road and they said I can.

I'm wondering, if your do scrap your rim, do they just give you a new wheel with no dedutable, or do you have to pay a deductable and they repair your rim? Also, if you happen to run over a nail, do the warrenty repair your tire or do you get a new one? If they do replace your rim (if its scraped), and gives you a new tire for a dam nail, then this warrenty sounds pretty good!!!

I get at least 4 flat tires a year........I also drive about 50,000 km - 70,000 km a year, so I guess my chances are pretty go with a warrenty like this......

How much did anybody in NY pay rim and tire warrenty? Also i think the cost depends on the rim size your car has so comparing from state to state prices is going to make a dif but also the rim size. I bet mine will be really high because NY plus i ordered a 335i with a sport package.

Paid 550$ CAN +tax for 3 yr tire/wheel warranty. I got it just for peace of mind, in the next 3 years, I know I don't have to spend a penny more than what I pay for my lease.

The cost of new tires is less than the warranty, and you don't have to put run flats on them when you replace the tires.

That $700-$1000 was better used as more down or just sitting in the bank collecting interest.

Be ware of restrictions at such a low offering price. You want a warranty that covers any tire/wheel combo on the car with no price cap for all road hazard damage.

I wanted to echo that comment. Rim damage from hitting a curb is not covered under these warranties. This is making me rethink whether I want to get the coverage on my new 335 to begin with. I'm more concerned about the low profile tires on the Convertible with Sport Package than I am on having a flat that can't be fixed. Curbs and I don't always get along.
