Hey guys - was wondering if anyone knew of a company that provides a bolt in or partial weld in E34 roll cage. I have been looking for a long time and am basically tempted to just make my own but it's annoying.

I want one just like that, half cage with cross bracing through middle and a proper harness bar.
Anyone?

I would be interested as well, maybe a group buy?

I'd think that would be a custom job. That, and if you plan on racing, you'll need to check with whatever organizing body you have to see what's required and legal.
I learned that little lesson the hard way...

I have one. I had it custom built back in 2000 for about $900. It takes about an hour to install once the holes are drilled. It was designed to work without the back seat installed, but I modified the seat so that it could work. It doesn't have cross bracing so that the back seat can still be used while its in the car. So basically it just a glorified harness bar and camera mount.
If you found a shop that would duplicate it, I'd be willing to pull it from the car. If I could find someone that could do a full cage fairly inexpensively, then I would sell it.

I used to use Alston up in PA, but don't think they are around anymore. It's a different Alston then the one making them now.
The last one I did (Maverick) was at my buddies machine shop. It past NHRA tech, so good enough for me. Kind of expensive though, it's made from chrome molley.

Can you just bolt the flanges trough the floor ?? I know some racing guys had to weld steel plates to the sheetmetal to strenghten the floorboard in order to be race legal !? May depends on the rules.
But it really looks sharp !!
Aluminium or steel ??

The car you show is a ring tool fully set up for the ring and that is a custom cage fully welded.

Jon, It wont be a sleeper anymore.

wow that's very dangerous for the back seat passengers:alright
the movit car has a full weld in cage... it's a well setup car

I've done some looking too... from what I understand custom is our only option.

Jon, you dont track the car (and even if you did, not nearly enough to justify a cage). You arent faster than 11.99, you daily drive it, and you'd lose the back seats. Why do you want a cage? Certainly a waste in your car.

Also passangers in a back seat with a cage in front of them is a HUGE "no-no". Incredibly unsafe. If you have a rear hoop or cage you should have your rear seats deleted so you arent tempted to use them. Someone will die that way.

ADn if you ever add the front half to make it a full cage you should immediately stop driving without a helmet.
To the best of my knowledge there are no rules that say you can't wear a closed face helmet in daily driving.
Forgot to add, "Too bad Mr. Traffic camera!"

Agreed, even with FIA/FSI certified foam padding on the halo and dash bar you should be driving with a full face helmet. I've driven around with my full face on before (Forgot the bag for it and didnt want it rolling around in the car on the way to an event), no law against it, but it sure gets you some odd looks!

odd looks because of a helmet is way better than odd looks because of a disfigured face!

Dam that first car posted looks really nice. I would figure cages cost alot, not no $900, some guy told me a decent one would go for 5 grand...?

I know that leaving the seat in with the cage there is bad. It doesn't take much to realize you're sitting just inches from a steel bar that won't bend. But when you're driving 5000 miles mostly at night and you want to sleep, you don't care and you climb into the back.
I don't get why you need to drive with a helmet on if you have a full cage. If the bars are flush with pillars you're just as likley to hit a pillar as you are the bar. Even with the Halo bar, I'm tall and just as likely to hit the sunroof (and have done so several times). But there are several supercars that have full cages as part of their structure and are covered with ultrasuede. The M12/M400 comes to mind.

i could be interested in a copy of the bar you have if it came in at a somewhat reasonable price. Want to go to aftermarket seats and want a harness bar.

Jon, tubing benders are becoming cheaper all the time.....Harbo Frieght etc. Just drill some holes in the concrete and hammer in some quick-sets to anchor it down and bend your own .095 DOM tubing. Then you can make it fit as nice as you can.
A tubing notcher placed in a drill press (also avail. HB) will make quick work for fitment joints.
The flat mounting plates/squares ...can be water jetted with holes already in them.....or you can labor through the cutting and drilling.
Too bad your not local to me.You and I would be doing alot of stuff together (fabb related, you fags):confused
Either way......you'll need to decide how much "hacking" on the interior your willing to go through in order to get the most "FLUSH" ,out of the way tubing.
If ZERO interior cutting is voted on.....then some pretty creative bends will be needed. Also ,less structurely sound.
My best...............V'
