I was on the interstate cruising and I saw a red 350z with a black body kit. I was hoping he was driving to go get it painted. I rolled the window down so he could see me and grinned at him. He smiled and we took off from 60mph. By 110 he was about 4cl back. I wanted to beat him by more but I guess he had some work done to it. When I slowed down back to him he had this stupid looking stare at me like "WTF just happened". I smiled again and he gave me one of those confused waves as he exited the interstate. So I cranked my Disturbed music and cruised to Chiptole.:buttrock

A Buick GN is nothing to sneeze at...they will take just about all BMW's on this board w/ very mild tuning.
So to say it beat a 350z sounds like a statement John Madden would make.....obvious
Of course I could be wrong....since the GN's are turboed. Are you mistaken or am I?

in a drag i would.....I didnt say all, but a majority. And I did say lightly modded, which would be easy low 12's.

The GXN are turbo charged. I think you mean a GNX. All the Later (86 & 87) Grand Nationals and T-Types were Intercooled & turbocharged, and capable of running 13's bone stock on the puny P215-65-15's Goodyear Eagles. The GNX was the Grand National to end all Grand Nationals, and included an upgraded intercooler, ceramic impeller exhaust wheel on the turbo, a panhard rearend setup, fender vents and flairs, 16" rims and a full gauge package amoungst other things and was capable of running low 13's bone stock, which by todays standards may not seem that fast but back in 1987 it was faster than any other production car in the US, it even beat a twin turbo Callaway Vette 3 straight times in a Motor Trend heads up race. It was a very limited production vehicle with only 547 being built. With low mileage examples now commanding upwords of $100,000 I doubt if you will see too many on the road.
I've seen one of those super-charged buicks take one out.I believe he was refering to the front wheel drive 3800V6 Regal GS's which were supercharged and could dip into the low 13's high 12's with a pulley change and light mods and some traction.
Here is a front wheel drive Regal.

Pulley, exhaust.
Upping the boost and allowing more to flow out of the engine.

350z's are not overrated. They're just out-dated. They were "competitive" in their time (circa 2002-2003), stocks starting out with a "whopping" 287 hp, but nowadays in the horsepower-arms-race era, Camrys have 268 hp and Altimas with 270 hp. Even the 2007 Z's 306 hp numbers are piddly compared to the upcoming offerings from Pontiac and Chevrolet.

the same as it is to me...exhaust and a boost controller (Basic Performance Upgrades) took me from 320hp to 400hp on "low" boost. for the Grand National, BPU mods are the same - exhaust and a BC. like Sniz said, BPU for a supercharged car is exhaust and a pulley, since the pulley is effectively a boost controller. either way, these modifications are relatively inexpensive on American and Japanese cars. BPU cost me $1500, but it can be done for $1000...to me that's light tuning.

there's always a chance you'll run into a 350Z who is as modded as yourself. i remember one night i left the drag strip along with some other people who were headed south on I-75 like me. we stopped at a gas station first, where i talked to the owner of a 350Z w/ a crazy body kit and loud as hell exhaust. of course he tells me the only thing done to it performance-wise is the exhaust :rolleyes . at the time my Supra was stock, but i was still thinking "hmm...350Z with exhaust only. this should be easy, especially on the highway." this guy ended up pulling me a good 3 cars from 60-120mph. :shifty turns out he was spraying, but how big a shot he was running i have no idea. his buddy informed me about it shortly after the race. "just exhaust..." fukin liar hahaha :stickoutt

Good job on killing Z.
My buddy has a Z w/ over 400whp w a vortech sc and other mods. Its an auto but it still rips. With that said, a stock one is a pig. I ran one on the highway from 70+. I ran away really hard in my Volvo R........it was almost funny how far back he was. Actually it was the fastest I've ever traveled in a car.......over 155mph and still climbing steady. Scared myself.

over 155mph and still climbing steady. Speedo at that mph is off a little bit, top speed on the R models is electronically limited to 155mph. Those are pretty impressive performing cars for a 5 cylinder.

Custom ECU tuning included a limiter removal. I also had my Nav runing so that tracked my MPH.....it was accurate. :buttrock

my injectors actually work pretty well with the size and the setup. not really much problems except for blow by, but that doesnt concern the fuel. as for tuning, i had a guy do it for me instead of going to a company and pay an arm and a leg for it. it works well so im not complaining.
