my friend's mini developed a cracked block from water that got
into the intake after driving through a deep puddle (seems strange).

are there any options to the factory engine?
any recommendations on an engine replacement?
thanks.

not advisable to drive through deep puddles fast in a MINI. The air intake can swallow water, and then the motor is kaput!
not warranty?

Hydrolock. Happens alot. Did he have a cold air intake?

A "sock" for them, or a aem type bypass valve will eliminate that all together.

Why doesn't he just fix the block and affected parts? Did it punch a hole in the block?

BMW probably won't warranty it. He should try, but warrantys don't cover water usually.

:devillook I knew a BMW tech that was gonna fit an 8-series V-12 into one for a track car. It would have fit with alot of work, but of course, it would be track only. If its a daily driver, a straight replacement would be best. Replace the damaged parts with aftermarket? Maybe a new block a company out there makes one?
