OK get this. I went out to the desert with Destiny and her family yesterday (my ex) to ride quads. I'd never done it before...it was a blast...

But here's the cool part. The trip to Buttercup (about 20 miles West of Yuma) took 2:25 in the BMW yesterday afternoon. It was just me and her. We left 1 hour and 45 minutes after her parents, who were in their RV, and passed them about 20 minutes West of El Centro.

Today I drove back alone. Just got in the door about 15 minutes ago actually. I left Yuma (had to go that way to get gas) at 6:46 PM, and walked in my front door here in La Jolla at 8:48 PM. Someone do the math on that average speed :).

I'm guessing around 240mph or so.

LOL. Nah, it's pretty stable. I have a really nice thing I put in a while back which eliminated all the rattles in the car. It's called a CD PLAYER.

Yuma's a shitty little town isn't it? Were you at those mysterious sand dunes near that rest stop in the median? There are a bunch of signs there that say "no off-roading".

Well on my way to bimmerfest last year I made it to the California border from PHX doing about a buck twenty. You can haul ass on that road!

Yes, stock E30's are not super stable at high speed, but dropped E30's with OEM M-tec kits handle quite well. Remember, the m-tec kit was wind tunnel tested...it helps trust me.

Yep. LOL. Buttercup is on the south of the highway, Glamis is on the north.

the manual asks that you do not keep your e30 above 120 for more than 20 minutes at a time.
or something along those lines i think

My car does not shake above 100..not any more anyways, after I had new tires put on.

I can cruise at 100+ for prolonged amounts of time..comfortably :D

Once I went 90.

Wait... 120+ mph for only 20 minutes? What's the point of that? You wouldn't even be able to do 120 miles in an hour. So it's more like less. Or something. I confused myself already.

I know what you mean. I live two miles north of El Centro. I8 from Yuma to El Cajon is a place to really kick ass due to very little traffic. I bet you liked the way your m3 handled through mountains. Next time you come, go to Glamis. That place swells up by over 200,000 people during major holiday weekends. Hit me up next time you're around here.

May I ask why a sophisticated M3 driver like yourself makes his home near El Centro?

That makes me and my car feel so special, thanks.:D

Anyways, yeah, my friend and I went 122 in my car (122 is the governor :complain ) and car was perfectly stable...we only went 122 for a short while though, just trying to catch up to this damn guy in his e46 going 140..(>_<)

Question for those who do not have front CA license plate mounted. I want to remove my front plate but risking a fixer ticket. Do those police agencies leave you alone? Thanks.

Lots of reasons. 1st, I was born and raised here. Cheap housing $173,000 for a brand new two story 3 car garage with 2100 living sq. ft. Our winters are prefect with lots of sunshine. Not a whole lot of traffic. Try driving your bmw at 100 mph for miles without seeing a single vehicle. Mexico is only 10 miles away, San Diego 110 miles, San Felipe 110 miles, Glamis 30 miles. It's funny how people from San Diego or any larger city, measures distance by time. Here we measure it by miles. Besides, to me, it really doesn't matter if I live here. During the weekdays I work all day and come home real tired and crash out. On weekends, for fun, I have an option of driving to SD or any of the other areas I mentioned. When I was going to school, I lived in SD for two years and felt the life style was too fast for me. Just don't ask me about the summers here.

yeah that 110 degree summers in the shade must be killer!
