View Full Version : 0-60 times are really 0-54

335 owners who are claiming 4.8 seconds 0-60, are really timing 0-54, which makes the factory spec of 5.3 seconds the real number when you factor in the 10% error. See other post "Steering and Speedometer Questions".

The person who timed the 0-60 run at 4.8 seconds was using a G-Tech Pro which has built in accelerometers that calculate speed independently from vehicle displays and is accurate within +/- 0.2 mph.

Ditto.

It amazes me to think that the 335i with just an ECU mod (such as vinshu's XEDE) can put 0-60 mph times in the Ferrari range, costing 1/3 and WHILE having civic-like economy.

What has the world come to?

The N54 should get the Engine of the Year award.

Sorry, the g-tech is pretty accurate and independent testing (car and driver, etc...) has returned similar results with even more accurate gear. 4.8 seconds is realistic.

Aren't BMWs numbers always conservative?

Just the horsepower spec tells you they aren't "precise."

Anyone can slap two snails onto a motor and achieve similar results, it's really nothing to write home about. The direct injection is about the only feature that interests me. It doesn't even have the Valvetronic you seem so in love with when you were bashing the LS7.

Still, its no valvetronic or VANOS though.

BMW numbers are usually 0-100kmh (62mph).

I GTech'd mine to a 4.8 also. And I'm in Arizona where the weather and altitude are NOT good for quick times (our tracks are usually .4 slower than other parts of the country). I have a manual trans. Others are also posting 4.8's with auto. I can't wait to see what a manual will GTech at in the northern and easter climates!

...Why? I understand the S54, but..

Hmm, anyone else find it weird that a 328 owner is trying to put down the 335 owners??? I guess some one has some secret regrets that he is trying to justify.

He has only five posts, and they're all on this topic.

Ahhh, we hear from the canadians, I always take the opportunity to thank a canadian personally for the doggy boots. In case you don't remember, the only help the canadians officially sent to NYC on 9/11 were booties for the search dogs----nothing else. Thank you canadian.

Wrong again. The reason it can pull out such high performance and great fuel economy IS because of the direct piezo injectors. And no, while any turbo will give you HP gains, BMW engineers did it with a finesse that requires going beyond your average garage mod nut.

I explicitly stated that someone in his or her garage could produce similar results, how am I wrong? VW has had a direct injection petrol turbo motor for quite some time now. As I originally stated, this engine is not award winning material. It's very heavy, and doesn't bring anything new to the playing field.

This is true. The motor itself is not ground breaking in the automotive industry. It's a good, strong engine, but that's not the point. It's a turbo engine in a BMW. That's why it is significant.

Even more accurate then that ! :) The G-tech PRO RR (mind you.. ;)) is a tri axes meter! It's the most accurate you can get! If you want 100%, you'll have to purchase a GPS for about 11000.00 .. the VBOX :)

By the way, I already calibrated it at the track, it's right on! Trust, ain't no way I can hang with an EVO, or even beat one, if it was doing 5.30. If you break-in your car mild, it'll be a few 10th slower (believe me, i've done this to numerous new autos over the years...) You wanna do the hard break-in that i posted on here in the past. Good luck! By the way, I checked my speedo with a GPS, it's right on within 1/100th! .. how much more accurate do you want. And another thing, BMW rated the car 0 - 62 (100km) not 0 - 60 mph.

makes a difference...

The car is fast, live with it! :)

Also, they measured HP at 350.
