Alright my older brother(21) owns a stock 5-speed 2001 Eclipse GT as a dd and I’ve always been wondering how my car would do against his but I never wanted to be the cocky fool to challenge him to a race. I’ve seen this done by another member and I thought it was a good idea to give our readers a visual of the cars before the story goes on so here is my bro’s car. This is just before he left for Iraq last year.

Our drive home consists of two straight 2.5 mile long roads that each have a big downhill slope and uphill slope. The end of the first road has an S curve…90* Right then 90* Left and immediately after that it’s a 90 degree right handed turn onto the second road.

So anyways I was on my way home from visiting a bunch of my friends that were back from college for thanksgiving. As I was leaving town I see my brothers headlights on a side street and he pulls out behind me. I’m thinking ok here we go cuz I know deep down my bro has been wondering the same. I drop my car into second gear for the slow left turn onto the first road and take off at about 85% throttle. My bro keeps up pretty well falling back just a little bit so I keep on going up to about 110mph shift into fifth and completely let off of the gas. I look in the rear view and see my brother is starting to pull up behind me really hard  so I drop it into fourth and jam on the gas to try to stop his pull but its no use. He walked by me like I wasn’t even trying and I was like WTF:conf but not worried because I knew I would have another shot on the second road. So we barrel through the S curves only slowing down over the gravel that the freaking rednecks kicked up on the road by cutting the corner too sharp.:complain I was sticking to my brother like glue through the turns but on the right hand turn onto the second road I completely drifted out so that slowed me down a lot. My brother being a good guy waits for me to straighten out before he takes off again. I wasn’t too happy about getting passed because I really didn’t expect him to keep on pulling so I dropped the hammer and gave my car all it had. Shifting perfectly at redline 1st..2nd…3rd I’m pulling up to him and he moves to the right lane still giving it all he had. I hit fourth gear pulled past him at about 105mph and keep on pulling up above 120 where both of us let off so we could turn into our driveway.
It was such a great feeling to have a real race and actually win it.:D It was also a really bad feeling when the car shuddered due to the very warped rotors that I have to replace.:(

(For everybody’s information the roads were deserted and both of them were nicely repaved country roads so the only danger was ourselves and deer…I hate deer.)
I hope you enjoyed!

Cool story. It's always more fun racing someone you know.

How much were you ahead before you shut it down on the second run?

I was about 4-5 cl ahead but remember I started behind him so side by side it would have been a good deal more:redspot

Haha I totally agree. I hated driving his car. It felt like a big chunk of plastic and I just looked up the weight of his car...3800lb

1st gen = pwnage. Doesn't look girly like 2nd, 3rd, 4th gens. Worst idea was to replace the engine with the 6.
