540i/6 vs 350Z

I'm sitting in the left turn lane at a red arrow waiting to turn left. Me and my girlfriend are sitting in the car with music at a normal level having a conversation. A silver 350Z pulls up next to us, windows down and system a-blarin. The guy keeps looking over and we keep talking. He starts rolling back and fourth at the light letting in and out of the clutch (it was a slight uphill grade). I ignore him, usually I don't like picking fights with wifey in the car. Anyway the light turns green and I turn like normal, and so does he. We're both in the front of the light at the green arrow, and of course he makes quite a sound going around the turn and speeding away. I roll my eyes and figure that's the end of it all.

But it never is. The next light turns yellow and then red just before we get there. Now we're lined up at the light, him in the middle lane and I'm in the left lane. Right lane (road is a 3x3) is empty, not too much traffic out that time of night. He's sitting next to us, turns up the stereo even louder and starts doing his thing again. My girlfriend, getting annoyed, finally says, "Honey will you please shut this guy up?" I figured I'd give it a shot and see what this moron could do. The 350Z looked completely stock, so I wasn't really too concerned. I hit the DSC button just in case and wait for the light to turn green. I don't launch my car or anything, but pull away briskly. He spins his tires and I have the lead from the get-go. I keep the pedal down and pull away a bit, he's at about my back bumper. I shift (a little early, probably around 5000 - 5500) into second and we stay even throughout. I take second to pretty much redline and shift into third where I start pulling away a bit again slowly. We get to around 90 or 100mph, I wasn't really paying attention to the speedo, and he lets off. He gets behind me and then in the turn lane, then makes a left turn into some shopping plaza. I guess he realized he wasn't going to get in front of me (or next to me for that matter) and decided to go elsewhere. I resumed a humane pace, put DSC back to it's normal mode and went on to PF Chang's for some dinner. The Chow Mein tasted mighty fine.


Cliffs: 540i/6 gets and stays ahead of a super-cool guy in a 350Z. Ego damaged, he dives into a plaza never to be seen again.

Nice job! I always like racing 350Z's and S2k's. The people who drive them seem to be of three types. Type 1 bought it just for show and doesn't race. So I don't concern myself with them. Type 2 bought it to mod and they are usually cool people. They like to talk after races and are usually nice. Type 3 bought it because they think it is a badass racecar. Type 3 is the most fun to race because you always get the distinct impression after you win that they'll spend the rest of the day crying in the shower and drinking Bacardi Silver just to feel better about it.

The race didn't even happen. He missed first gear. And second. And he didn't even know we were racing. He was half throttle. There's no way a 4 door BMW could beat a 350Z. No way. He totally would have kicked my ass. Like 9 car lenghts. Totally.

LOL, Good Point. But i find this true with anyone you race. You can honestly place a person into one of these three catagories. Good observation my friend.

It was probably about 7:30 or so. The particular street I was on didn't really have any traffic on it, dies down around 6 - 6:30.
