View Full Version : Favorite Rims on an E36 M3?
vibes
11-23-2006, 11:31 AM
I'm sure there a few other topics out there, but I just recently bought an E36 95 M3. Black on Black!
Its completely stock despite an intake.
I'm very excited to finally get to mod one, I've been looking for 2 years!
First thing I want to do is get some clear all around lights & rims.
I need to know what rims look best on the car, I know I'm going to get some totally different opinions so lets see what you can sport me.
I love the BBS rims! ;)
Please post pictures of the rims on a car if possible!
Thanks a bunch guys! :)

Hartge Classic's in 19's, of course...bar none my favorite wheels!
If you like black on the rims, I would go with the ASA AR1's polished lip/black center. Or go with with the polsihed lip/silver center ASA AR1's looks real nice and doesn't break your wallet.

I have seen a few nice E46 rims on E36's before:

Any other pics of those rims on an e36?

I have RC's on my car and have had RGRs on my old car, i want to someday go to RS-GT's. :)

The cool thing is - There are a LOT of rims that look swwet on the E36.. Thats 'cause the E36 looks great.
AC Shnitzer, BBS, SSR - All look great. I have AC (Knock Offs) and would probably do CSL's next. :)
Good lok with your decision!

For a street wheel, either CCW's or Fikse. Something at least 2 piece, and with some nice shiny polished lip. Kinesis look great too... too bad they are no more :(

Fikses for superior strength, lightweight, appearance . Been through several rims and i have to say unless they are heavy and forged they will not survive the rough roads here in NY. A set of Fikses on my TR have held up for over 10 years with not even the slightest bend. :)

SSR GT3's are wayyy too busy IMO.
Normal e46 m3 wheels are pretty ugly, be it on a e46 or e36. Never did like those.
CSL wheels are definately nice.
BBS CH's are without a doubt my personal favorite.

My Fikse Aros look great on my red 95 M3. They're light, well-made, forged wheels and really set-off the car. At track events I get huge compliments on the wheel/tire set-up, with comments like "That's the best-looking car at the track today". Check out the Fikse site and find the Aros: there's a pic there of an E36 with that wheel set-up. THEN search furiously for a set used so the big money doesn't leave your house. I traded my stock M3 wheels and $1150 to a fellow Bimmerforums member for mine. Great deal and he was a great guy. :buttrock

HERE HERE!! Couldnt agree more.. And specifically, FM-10s. Ive never had the slightest bend, despite all the potholes dinans3m3 is referring to... And, they look awsome on this application.. Only thing is, theyre a BEAR to clean.. All those honeycombs, where the center section joins the outer lip are dirt trappers, and unlike some honeycomb designs, on the Fikses, the dirt cant 'flow through' because theres a half inch high lip backing each of those 'cells' or segments. But aside from that, they are awsome rims that are strong as hell. And, they weigh under 17 lbs!

There's so many great wheels it's hard to single out a favorite.
I really like (my) 18" style 166 reps (e60 M5) wheels. (sorry no pics).
One of my fav e36 in general are the factory 328 sport BBS RC041 wheels (at least in the UK they were) and I recently found a completely refurbished set, with polished dish. (got the original BMW hex-nut tool as a bonus).
BMW/BBS RC041 2-piece with forged centres. 7.5"/8.5" x 17".

i have a set of these that i might be willing to part with, or trade for something similar for my 525iT. 7.5x17 all around. email me if you have any interesting trades. they will be available until feb (still on the boat from europe!). thanks!

money not being an option = Fikse FM5 (i think its the best looking wheel for the lines of the e36)
otherwise, OEM LTW or CSL reps.
If you want Fikse FM5, there are 2 sets of them for sale in the for wheels/tires for sale forum. That wheel seems to be found used pretty easily.

ASA-AR1 / ASA-AR2 are popular on BMW's also i think, i see quit a few being used on this forum when i was looking for rims that look good and people like, i dont know if these are used on M3's as much as 328/325's though...
i think they look hot, as well as most of the recommendations here!

oops, should have been more clear. if anybody is interested in the wheels, email me. i think they look fantastic, especially the staggered setup, but we sold our 3 series when we left germany and i bought a 5 series here and would like to find 17" wheels for it.
but part of me would like to hold on to them as i'm sure we'll pick up another e36 in the next few years.

Sadly and weirdly they are not. Which is weird because the 5 spoke M3 wheels, Contours etc do have a bigger dish on the wider rears.
This is my only "complaint" about these wheels. A missed chance, but I'm sure there must have been reasons for this.

I can highly recommend the BBS RC's I have had them since I bought the car. I track my car and drive them over our rough roads here with no issues. Very lightweight at 17 lbs. No bends no issues as of yet.

Go for forged wheels over cast wheels! Forged wheels are lighter and much stronger.
