i am buying a '83 533i, and it has the trx wheels, so since metric tires aren't something i want to invest $200+ a tire, what wheels will fit this car? e34?
anyone please. thanks!

Here's good info on what fits the e34, which also apply to your e28. 17" Style 5 wheels on a lowered e28 looks badazz!

With the boxy shape of the E28, it would be really tough to look for a wheel that would match the classic shape of the car. You can't just put in something that would look too modern for the design of the E28.
When I had my E28, I put in an OEM front spoiler and rear spoiler designed for that body and the wheels I put in there was the OEM BBS 14" mesh design in stock size which matched the looks of the whole vehicle. It had an overall look pretty close to the european E12 M535i. It looked pretty amazing without resorting to those low-profile wheels of current times.
BBS mesh wheels or the classic Alpina wheels would really complement the characteristic classic boxy shape of old BMWs.

Any 5 lub BMW wheel can fit. Stock offset is 20mm, so, depending on wheel width/tire used, you may need to adjust that. I put E39 15" 528i wheels on mine with hubcentric rings and they looked great, and are very cheap/easy to come by. I think I paid $200 for my set.

Style 5s are nice, but ALOT of E28 guys are running them. The most common rims for E28s are...
1. Style 5 (E39)
2. M5 oem (E39)
3. BBS RS

I am looking forward to my KOPI alpina wheels (17x7.5 Offset 20 abrahamsmotorsport), they should fit the classic look of the e28. I have seen pictures of the Alpina B7 turbos from late 80's and looks good. Also the Alpina B10's and B9's from the 80's aren't bad either

dont you run into space issues with anything bigger than a 17 on an e28? (i had E34 15 inchers on my e28 and the hub size is exact BTW), but i had tried a set of e39 m5 wheels on there kinda as a joke, and even without a tire the rim was real close to hitting the strut. The BBS mesh or basket weave rim is the best look for any bmw, new or old, i think. the '03 530i looks great with that wheel, as does an 87 M6 or 5 series. use any wheel you want, just as long as its not chrome 20's !!
