I'm trying to replace belts and bought a 8mm hex per DIY and it doesn't fit either tensioners. Is it hex or torx and what are the sizes.

I don't have either fittings but looks like a 10mm allen on the AC tensioner and a 15mm socket on the bigger alternator belt tensioner. Can anyone please confirm before I make third trip to Sears for tools?

Its a 13mm for the AC ideler.
I do not know the allen key size.
16mm for the main drive belts tensioner if you need to get at that at all.
'97 M44 here:
I've got T-50 torx for both tensioners. The small pulley on the alternator belt takes a 16mm socket, and does not get loosened. Check to make sure you are working with the tensioner, and not the pulley, they both have dust caps, are the same size, and are easily mistaken for each other.

Done. For a 96 M44, the AC belt tensioner needs a 10mm allen wrench/socket to release the tensioner. The other tensioner for the big belt is a 16mm socket. If you use Bentley's, they say to turn the 16mm clockwise to release - they are bassackwards - need to turn counter clockwise to release. Wonder why 97 M44 is torx?
