Wife says I have too many projects, and one needs to go. Originally I was going to put a Dinan SC in it but some people said it's not worth it for the price. I would now rather go turbo or twin screw, but none of those will be CARB approved for California emissions.

Details: 1997 BMW E36 M3
-Prior owners was a rich family who took very good care of it up to 79K miles, and all maintenance records are available.
-I've owned it since then and have always used Mobil1 oil, there's a fresh oil change in the car now with 106K miles.
-The car is very clean and in excellent condition, always was garage kept.
-The exterior color is alpine white, which is the best for the SoCal sunshine.
-The interior is a mulberry grey with a fresh/professional carpet cleaning and has the luxury package for added wood trim.
-Equipped with Contour wheels, rear spoiler, a 5sp transmission and the clutch works fine.
-It had a clean Carfax when I bought it in 2003 and hasn't been in any accidents since.
-In general, everything works great, brand new clear Euro foglights as well.
-PM me with your email address for more pictures

Xtras:
-oversized tires on front and back wheels
-$2K+ professionally installed stereo system with brand new Kenwood head unit, RockFord Fosgate amps and custom sub box in trunk.
-Turner Motorsports Shark Injector software
-Custom CAI with extra large K&N filter
-Peake code tool
-Repair manual
-Clifford alarm

Price: Was $14,900, NOW $11,900 obo!!!!

Will the wife let you trade the M3+cash for a 2006 STI?

AlpenWeißM3
11-30-2006, 01:09 PM
Since I'm between jobs, probably not. I have more clout when I'm bringing in the bling....

An STI or EVO are on my future car list as they are already FI-ed. If I get into a job position soon, I'll let you know. PM me with the $$$ difference and I'll think about it.

I drove a WRX in 2003 before I bought my M3; it understeered like a pig and there was too much turbo lag for me. My M3 in comparison is a pure dream to drive, nicely balanced and power is always ready to go. Why are you wanting to get rid of your STI......don't you like it?

I can't figure out how to PM, maybe since I just signed up here. For reference, most people ask about $28,500 for a '06 STI. I am willing to negotiate for the right car.

The STI is very balanced. Maybe not like an M3, but it is very well thought out. Basically, it will rotate on lift and push on throttle. At part throttle it is neutral. In low speed extreme turns, like u-turns, it will understeer with the differential set to auto, although rear bias can be added to decrease this. It's very, very, very predictable. This is the best part. About the only time I test the limits (I don't track it) is on empty freeway onramps. I can turn at the limit of traction at wot, then yank the wheel into the turn and it will just take the turn a little wider. So, there's my impression of the handling. There is turbo lag, but it's already a 2.5L so there is some power off boost. My car is stock. I understand a tune and downpipe significantly improve response. The stock computer artificially limits boost at certain rpm thresholds, a tune voids this. Cars with simple upgrades usually reach their peak torque at about 3,000 rpm, at which point I've seen as high as 421 ftlbs at wheels on stock turbo.

Wow, talk about long and drawn out. Okay, I want to get into a cheaper car because I'm getting ready to start graduate school next summer. My payment is $520/month. Ouch. I'll be screwed when I no longer have a job, so I'm prepared to take a hit now (I'll lose money when I get rid of my STI) in anticipation of being an unemployed grad student. I'd get a beater civic or something but driving pleasure and feedback are important to me, hence the interest in a E36 M3.

Hope you enjoyed the read. Email me if you are interested in the future: redwardmiller@gmail.com

awesome car Thanks! I truly wish the twin screw/turbo stuff was CARB approved, then I wouldn't be here.

does it have fold down rear seats? Heated front seats? No on both counts.....Sorry. Heated seats makes me feel like I peed in my wetsuit or something like that! ;>)

Thanks dude. Well, it was a really nice car until I recently tapped a guardrail on an onramp because of a leaking irrigation sprinkler. Life can really suck sometimes!

Anyhow, it was nothing major, and I'll have almost all of it fixed soon. There will be some small scrapes and dings that the car will be sold with now though. Because of this and the fact I'm starting an independent contractor business, I've drastically reduced the price and need to move it. You can still get a good car for a great price.....my loss is your gain.

$11,900 obo

Thanks for looking!

actually, now that i think about it, unboostedzc has a very good point. wrong coast. i think getting it to NC would be an expensive proposition...moreover, i've got my hands full with a few other projects. don't worry about the pics unless you planned on taking them anyway.

i'll let you know if i run across any additional prospects!

03-27-2007, 11:53 AM
nice 3....i am slightly interested, any chance you might possibly consider 10 or 10.5k? if you can hold out until the end of the summer I can probably have the 11, my other 97 is crapping out with 198k on it and I don't think i could drive another car.

AlpenWeißM3
03-28-2007, 09:46 AM
I would be willing to take $11 now (firm!) without replacing the damaged bodyparts. I have all of the parts, and they would be unpainted. Thanks!

Becoming more interested in the damage pics. Would you sell without the stereo equipment and intake?

AlpenWeißM3
03-29-2007, 01:20 AM
Sorry, but no. The subwoofer and intake are a custom installation for an E36, and I don't have any need for this after selling the car.
