Car was absolutely fine and in a1 mechanical condition a couple of days ago but now its decided to go tits up! Car seems to have erratic idle problems when slowing down out of gear but once the car has stopped still it soon recovers the steady idle speed it should have. When the car is in motion and in gear the engine runs very precisely with no erratic rpm problems. This morning it stalled 1st time starting but it was ok the second attempt... a few days ago you would think it had only just left the factory!?

Can anyone shed some light on this?

My other problem is that there is a slight ticking/tapping noise coming from the engine area. My only guess is that the tappets need adjusting to cure the tapping sound that seems to be coming from the drivers foot well of a RHD car when inside the cockpit, however the tapping noise seems to be a constant tempo and does not really change throughout the rev range and can only really be heard over the viscous fan with a few thousand on. Engine can be very quiet 1 minute but it soon developes the tapping tune. Tapping is fairly high pitched and should not get confused as a bottom end clunk etc

Going to have the car serviced tomorrow and let the mechanic look at it so could do with having an idea about what is actually wrong. Figure it out and i'll buy you an icecream. Cheers - Adam
