sorry if this question has been asked before. I'm picking up my 335i in two weeks, and I gotta get winter tires on them asap. Besides getting new rims (ie the $1200 + $200 tirerack winter tire package), what are the 18" options? Very confusing with some tires available in 225/40R18, and not 255/35R18 and vice versa. Can smaller tires (ie 225/40R18) go on the rears?
thanx in advance for any help!

Dave, because of the run-flats, you are EXTREMELY limited in your choices. Your best bet is to drop down to 17" and get the Blizzak LN-22s, especially since you are located in Syracuse(I used to hang in Fayettville). Call Bruce@ Tire rack(ext. 289) and he`ll set you straight. The Blizzak tire will help quite a bit even on RWD.

That seems to be the direction I'm headed in. Thanx.
So how was your experience with RWD and winter tires in Fayettville? I'm coming from a 2001 Audi S4...

Actually Dave, Im not sure! Im coming from an Audi A8L and the Bizzaks were sensational. My last winter driving in Syracuse was RWD with snows only on the rear wheels. It was acceptable but not the smart way to go. My neighbor has a new BMW 645 coupe RWD and he just bought the LN-22s. Its the way to go!!!

I still don't see why you need to have RFTs on the car. Swap the dumb things out and carry a can of tire goo in the trunk or spring for a mobility kit.

Because there is no spare. A mobility kit won't cut it if the tire really won't hold air and you don't have reinforced sidewalls.
Then again, BMW Assist is also an okay solution provided you're not in a big hurry or in the middle of nowhere.
