Can you let me know what snow tires you've used and your impression of them? I'm especially interested in anyone's experience with studded tires: how much do the studs effect handling, how fast can you go with studs on, any other impressions? Thanks.
I'm thinking studded Nokian Hakkapeliitta 2's.

Check out this link for a fresh Norwegian tire test.

Since studded tires are illegal in many parts of the US, it's hard to find much for reviews. I don't even know if any of the tires in their test are available in the USA.

I've run studded haks on several cars, expect only one season, but great tire other than quick wearing.
they are a snow tire, so also expect to feel some rubber squirm in spitited driving

I had Bridgestone Blizzaks on my 325 and they we're great. They would have been complimented nicely with traction control, but I had no problems trekking to Maine and VT and NH from CT even in substantial snow. My town has some hills that are a bitch, but only once did I find one I couldn't get up.

Even if you only use them for December, January, February, and maybe half of March... they won't be good for at least another winter?
I'm just wondering cause for studded Hakka 2's its about $170 each (16"), kind of a lot. I was hoping to get at least 2 maybe 3 winters out of them. I intend to buy summer tires for the rest of the months.
The studs don't have a big effect on handling?
Studs really come in handy when youre driving on ice, when driving in snow the studs really dosent do anything.

I know, I was wondering about studs on dry pavement -- how they effect handling.

Depends on how many miles you drive, my guess is there good for 6000-8000 miles
effect on handling.... their winter tires, not high performance tires
to save a bit of cash, get a set of steel 14" or 15" rims for your winter tires, skinny tires work better in snow & ice anyway

Do snow tires without studs last longer than studded ones? Would you recommend any specific unstudded snow tire model?

stud's don't affect how long the tire lasts , tha haks wear out quick cause they are soft & plyable, a long lasting tire will be like a hockey puck on cold pavement
