:rofl @ greenhorn
It should be printed on the backside of the wheels. Should say etxx
If they were on a e36 m before you should be fine on your e36. Tires will work great

As for tires... you will need a staggered set ... 225/45/ 17in for front 245/40/17 for rear.... I'm not sure 235 would be the choice at all... the dealer specs dont use them and they just might not look right. These rims really require a staggered setup because that what they are...I would not recommend the tires you have now.
I had everything setup according to OEM specs...even when I swapped out my wheels for a chrome set...staggered fit and all.

You shouldnt have any problems fitting the 235 40 17 tires on the 17x8 and 17x9 wheels if thats your question.
Fitting them on the car is a different story and you would have to provide the offset for anyone to help you decide that.

That is ludacris! You can use 235/40/17 all around and be fine with fitment.
If he wants to nitpick, the wheels from the factory are 17x7.5 and 17x8.5 so he is out of spec so stick that in your pipe and smoke it.
Buy the wheels and use your tires. I am not a fan of staggered tires even if you do have staggered wheels.

*searching for the "take a bow" smiley :D :D :D
Ok, I believe that the OEM centercap size is 70mm but I would call your dealer to make sure as I am not 100%

the offsets are 41mm for the contours

Yup... Its why E36 M3 owners like myself cant buy two extra stock rear rims and then be able to run 245x40-17 tires all around like they do on their rears; the offset places the 245 tire too close to the front strut, hence spacers are required up front.. Its why I Can run 245s all around with my Fikses though: Fikses have a 37.7mm offset, meaning they place the tires 3.3mm more to the outside which is just enough for them to clear the struts.. It also means the rears which fit fine on the stock rims even with a lowered suspension, require a minor fender roll with the Fikses.
Understanding offset and their influence on fitment can make your tire and wheel life alot easier :D
