e36 325i vs. e36 318 with m50 swap

Today at school a certain bimmerforum member kept talking sh*t about his new m50 swap into his 318 so I had to show him up with a true "real" m50 power and gearing....anyways i have an exhaust, chip, intake on my e36 325i and the other kid had an intake and m3 exhaust...we did 3 pulls all from second gear and i couldnt believe it.......i walked him like an m3 would walk me...its crazy to believe that just a chip and better exhaust could really do that much...he also has 318 gear which supposedly is quicker than 325 gearing in lower gears so as he was telling me this I was getting a little scared that he may keep up....guess not ....im planning on doing cams, tms cam chip, pulleys and fan delete this way I can hang with stock m3s at least

I guess I'm not getting something... You have a modded 325 and are surprised you beat a lightly modded 318? I don't know why he would think he would win...or better yet why you would think you would lose.

Swap there are more options; more power. I really don't wanna say im gunna do this, or do that, and then not follow through, so i plead the 5th for now. What about you? Still wanna boost the M50?

Yeah i hear yah. For now im going to have m3 cams, pulleys, and do a fan delete since i cant afford anything close to a boosted package let alone the labor required to instal it. I just want to be completeing with stock m3's at least for now, then once i graduate college do....BOOSTED TIME :buttrock

I wasn't at WOT, nor down shifting.. I'm not sure how much my 4cyl diff will hold, and i don't have teh funds for an upgrade at the time.

But I can't take away props from Eric, as his car is pretty quick for a m50.

change your diff! :buttrock that will help alot if you want to keep up with M's! im dead even with them (3.2's) im assuming. and i dont even have cams. i have everything else though, you name it! i have a 3.73 diff and i wouldnt go any higher!

ya. 3.73 would be perfect. wouldnt go any higher though. makes freeway driving a beotch! at 60mph im like at 3.1k or so? not too bad but it goes up quick from there! i never have to down shift which is cool:redspot

My brother has a 3.46 diff that is great you dont have to really down shift and is rpms are high but not crazy high on the highway-he has a s52 swap though but still its a great diff- im not really sure what bmw it came out of...

I see, then I agree that he was most likely in the wrong gear or not at WOT. Three cars is almost a full second in the quarter mile and cars with 10hp difference I find it hard to believe to say the least...

yeah well see...but by spring it should be decently quicker :D .....ill post some run against some m3 guys when its all said and done this way i can really see how much cams, diff, pulleys, etc actual help
