Dakar I vs. Dakar II

I own a 95 Dakar M3, and have noticed that the hood seems richer shinier and darker than the front quarter panels. Is this natural or has my hood been repainted? What years were the different Dakar colors? The rest of my car looks a lot paler in color than the hood. Thanks for any info, ScottDetroit

Chances are the hood has either been repainted or its been buffed if it is significatly less faded than the other panels.

Because the difference between dakar i and dakar ii is that the second generation has a clearcoat where as dakar i doesn't.

no clearcoat? are you sure? that seems dangerous to the paint to leave it without a clearcoat.... hmm.. bmw does some odd things. Anyway I've heard that you simply CANNOT match yellow. That if you get something repainted its never going to be completely the same. Had a friend who got his m3 repainted ferrari yellow instead of stickin with dakar. Food for thought...

Yep, I am serious. There is no clearcoat on the first gen dakar yellow. That's why many with original paint are badly faded!

I can dig some up... last I heard the car was being sold. Ferrari yellow 95 with grey interior i think, 18" chrome lowenharts, AA turbo, silent exhaust, major tint, amazing system... its crazy

i believe the first gen dakar yellow was only on the 95's, and the second gen was upgraded along with everything else in the evo's (96+). i've heard of some peeps with 95's complain that the HOOD was paler than the fenders, maybe cuz of more direct exposure to the sun and the weather.... so sounds like to me that yea, it was repainted or buffed, etc. must be kinda odd to see mismatched yellow panels on the car.
