Hello, is this not an E92 (vs 335) forum? TT for me means "twice the trouble". Who cares if you can make 60 mph in 1 sec less. Has anyone taken delivery of a 328 and if so can you comment on performance, initial quality, & reliability to date. Thks.

Zubie, I can only tell you that I ordered a 328XI to be delivered in late Nov. I did some "substantial " driving in the 328 and, for me, it was plenty quick! I do believe that the initial quality will be the same if not better than the 335, seeing as though the 328 is minus the turbo.

This is a car forum, not a model forum IMO.
Good luck if you get a 328.

I took delivery of a 328xi about a week ago and it seems plenty quick for me also. I have owned a few turbo cars in the past and had probably more than my fair share of problems with them. I found myself a little " turbo shy " this time and opted for something that was normally aspirated. The last turbo I had was of Swedish manufacture. a 2004 that was in the dealer's shop at least 24 times in about 31 months of ownership.... so it is not all that hard to see why I avoided any turbo. My brother worked hard on me to consider something with a supercharger but I went with the 328 and couldn't be happier. I may consider a turbo or SC model at some future time, but for now I'm convinced ( as is my wife) that I made a good choice. Ed

Thks. My 328 delivery is due mid Nov. The dealer I ordered from didn't even have one to test. There is so little 328 info on this forum I was beginning to think I must have made a mistake

Not suggesting anyone is a hater. Expecting my 328 in Nov and just anxious to hear more of this model.

Very interesting Ed. Exactly my experience with 2 turbos .. not bimmer engines but German made turbos. Lets have others do the testing.

We just drove our 328i home tonight. So far, it's everything a new BMW should be. Ride quality is very good. Power is what I consider "OK to average", but my point of view is admittedly skewed from working on supercharged V8s for years. The wife seems to like it.
I'm sure I'll eventually be into the DME on the dyno, but I've got other projects ahead of that.

I bought a 328xi and the 328i my wife and I test drove seemed fine to me. I have enough cars with neck jerking power. Horsepower is not everything and I like having four wheel drive.

What's difference between 06 and 07? I got 06 328 as a loaner and was impressed with power and comfort of this car. I didn't drive 335 though.

As you can see this is my first post. I have been lurking since we ordered my wife a 328i sedan to replace her Volvo wagon. I too was starting to think this was a 335 only forum but I do understand the excitement associated with a twin turbo setup from BMW. For her it is way more engine then needed for Hawaii. We shopped around looking at Audi, Saab, Volvo, Lexus and Infiniti and she instantly fell in love with the BMW's road-feel and overall quality. It blew away the competition. Now, if it would only get here.

I'm in this boat as well as I would really like to own a 335i wagon, but well we all know that is never going to happen (BMW NA and Corp recently confirmed that such a car is not in the works for the US).
So please any and all people voice your comments on the 328i.
I would also like to bring up that from what I am reading and researching it seems that the 328i can easily be converted to a 330i. Same internals it may only be a matter of swapping intake runners and exhaust manifolds then finding the right programming. If anyone else is researching this as well please let me know.

Very interesting Ed. Exactly my experience with 2 turbos .. not bimmer engines but German made turbos. Lets have others do the testing. I do believe that my last turbo was manufactured in Germany ..... however the quality control of the assembly process IMHO has at least as much to do with the quality of the finished product as the parts that are thrown into the mix. I am open to the future because most mechanical devices improve over time because of new materials , engineering, etc and I would not rule out a TC or SC model in the future. I have never owned a SC engine and might like to try one of them. Ed

I am new to the board and BMW all together. I picked up a 07 328i coupe Wed night at the local BMW dealer. Apparently I got lucky they claim it was suppose to been a customer order car that must not have taken delivery. We were not even looking for this car we were looking at the 06 330i sedans that were on the lot and saw this on their website and it has enough room in the back seat for me behind my fianance driving and vice vers. This way her mom can be in the passenger seat.
We looked at a 2001 M5 and then drove this and this car may not have the power of the M5 or the vettes that I have driven. But it sure drove a hell of a lot better then the M5 and was a lot more comfortable. The options on this car are unreal for all the bells and whistles it has.
This is a great car, I only have 250 miles on it and took delivery with 192 miles on it.

A good perspective on the 328i...the attributes of the car sometimes get overshadowed by the raw horsepower of the 335... the 335 is a great car.... the 328 is a very good one

took delivery of my 328i sedan 2 weeks ago. The next day drove 150 miles for lunch at a new pizza place. Now why would I have driven past 20 pizza places to try a new one? Get used to asking your self this if you buy this car! you will SEARCH for excuses to drive around!
I never had turbo's (also had a jap car and/SUV). So I can't tell you what I think of this car over the 335i. But, i can tell you as others have that this car if fully capable of jerking your head/neck around if you put your big toe on the gas! It handles like a dream (get the active steering option). The stereo upgrade is worth it - the sound is freak'n awesome. And at the last second I opted for the iDrive which I totally fell in love with. It makes those 2 hr. roads trips that you take for no other reason except to sit in you new bimmer even more fun as you'll be playing with it the entire time.

Just want my wheels in black instead of gun-metal gray Good luck and enjoy your new ride , I can't wait to take my 07 328xi on a serious road trip. This is the best all around vehicle I have ever owned. I should have looked at BMW before I got that quirky Swedish troublesome turbo I had previously. Ed

Hmm, sounds like another Saab driver in this thread. I currently own a '94 Saab 93 and actually love the car. Never any mechanical problems just a few nagging stupid interior gremlins like skipping CD, some speaker buzzing, and sunroof pinch protection issues. I'm a bit rare here in that I've now owned 4 Saabs.
My lease is up on my '04 and I can't stop thinking about the 328i. I drove one in San Francisco a few weeks ago and have been seriously wanting one since. I'm considering three cars now - BMW, '07 Infiniti G35, '07 Saab 93 Aero. I just drove the G35 yesterday. Yes it is damn fast and at $34,700 MSRP is much better equipped than the 328i, But I STILL keep thinking of that 328i ride.
I've picked up a really good quote from an area dealer that is better than the Saab quote WITH rebates and GM incentive pricing. Guess that just about seals it, huh?! Now all I need to decide is coupe or sedan!

I got it on Oct 11 so that makes it about 3 weeks. Sorry for the delay in responding but I'm usually online at work ( it's allowed ) and I've been unusually busy for the past week or more. The 328 is great and I couldn't be happier with it. Ed

Aaron I looked at the G35 and the 350 Z . I liked the G but not the Z. The Z in my opinion had a somewhat cheap look and feel to the interior plus the RWD would be a problem in the winter and the salesman at the local Nissan dealership could stand in for that soup guy on Seinfeld. He had no idea on how to treat a customer. My wife likes the G so maybe that will be her next car. Ed

So what sold you on the 328i? It looks like Infiniti is going to play hardball on holding the line on MSRP pricing. The car felt nice but don't rember if it felt as "together" as the 328i. I'm going out today to get a longer test run in the 328i. I really need to make a decision.

I guess what really sold me was a combo of the ride, handling and the quality of the interior trim and components ( I don't think I'll be dealing with any peeling dash boards on this baby) I really like the body shape and styling. My last European built car was an absolute disaster. The BMW feels way more solid while driving and when you close the doors you get a solid sounding thud and not the hollow tinny sound of my former car. I was also treated well by the dealer and his staff. Go out and take an extended test drive. I did and I was sold. Best of luck. Ed

I drove my 328xi in Germany on the Autobahn and found it could happily keep up with anything else on the road. In the USA with current speed limits the extra power of the 335 is of no use, whilst the extra grip of the four wheel drive in the wet or cold is.

Picked up my 2007 328i last Monday and I'm lovin' it! Specs: Premium Package, Manual Transmission. Test drove the 2006 325i. Also test drove an A4, G35, C280 and went with the 328i. I test drove each car HARD and was very impressed by the solid feel of the 325i. Nothing else matched. I'm finding new things about the 328i all the time such as 328i doesn't roll back on a steep hill, drink holder under armrest keeps drink cold, lighter is hot without pushing it in (found that out the hard way!).
I've already put over 700 km on it. At this rate, I'll be well over the 30,000 km I upgraded to.
Don't see many posts on the 328i so I'm curious to see how others are enjoying it. How's the 328xi? I was originally going to get the xi but the salesman and other bmw staff advised me not to. After further research, I'm glad I went with the RW. I also picked up the winter tire package from BMW (Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22).
Let me know if anyone wants me to test anything on it and I'll try to test it out if I get a chance.

Great news. I finally took the plunge and ordered my vehicle. My '07 E90 is IN PRODUCTION! I don't ever remember being this excited about a new car purchase! I can't wait for it to be delivered. After a horrible experience at one local dealer, I was able to do business with a very good contact at another location. There was no BS and I got an absolute rock-bottom deal.
I agree with the post regarding the G35. I drove it and thought it was a great car but just didn't captivate me like the BMW has. I got a way better deal than the MSRP only deal the Infiniti dealer was offering. I'll be able to turn in my '04 Saab 93 in Jan, right about the same time that my E90 should be ready. It's been a good run with Saabs but it's time to try something new!
Funny though, I wonder if things will go faster. I placed my order with the dealer yesterday and production started today! Here's what I ordered:
Sparkling Graphite
Sport
Heated Seats
Xenon
Logic7
Looking forward to the drive!
Aaron
